BBC: Formula 1's Greatest Drivers of All Time (Top 20)

I'd have made JMF number one but these are all opinions in the end.

 

I've been mulling over a heresy that's been swirling around in my alleged mind for over a season of F1 that Tifosi's comment puts succinctly. Mark Webber was at best a strictly middle-of-the-pack also ran FOR HIS FIRST SEVEN SEASONS IN F1. Driving a season for Minardi, two for Jaguar, two for Williams F1 and his first two for RedBull, he had zero wins, zero fast laps and just two podiums, and a total of exactly 100 championship points for an average of 14 points PER SEASON! Adrian Newey arrives at RedBull in 2006, takes a couple of years to get their cars right and - voila! - Sebastien Vettel, admittedly a very talented driver, and Mark Webber dominate F1 racing as no one has since Michael. I would love to see Sebastien in dead even cars with Fernando, Kimi, Lewis and Jenson. I even dare to wonder how Mark would fare in such a competition.

 

I would have liked to see Mika Hakkinen higher up and Kimi Raikkonen as well in the top 15

Another driver that is not high up enough on the list is James Hunt

Hunts glory days and people really got close to their favorite drivers back then
