I had the opportunity to view 26683. It is in fact in NY and apparently has been in restoration for the past couple of years. Apparently Facella is still the owner and is anticipating the completion sometime in '09.

26683 was never "lost". It's been owned by Facella for several years now, and it has been undergoing repairs. 26683 suffered a bad crash (rear hub failure, IIRC) at Daytona and was never repaired properly.

That car's been in New York for over a decade; owned by Facella since 2000.

Great news anyway if this LM will make its reappearance soon (preferably on track). What livery does it have? Any pictures?

    Best, Peter

Will never forget seeing 26683 during the Ferrari-Porsche challenge at Zandvoort's Marlboro Masters 1992. The first time i saw a competition Ferrari. It even competed with the F40's! (picture is not mine)

26683 is a Series I car, so it lacks the aero improvements that came in the later series II and III cars as well as the under-the-body changes. Later series cars had numerous updates, re-designs and newer body materials. Later cars were much lighter the Series III cars had lower center of gravities. However, if you compare a Series I, II and II car, the bones are all fundamentally all the same.

The last time I saw the car, the livery was Rosso Corsa with the NART Blue and White stripes down the centerline. Not as it appears in this earlier '92 picture.

This car was never lost, not even close. I had it go through my hands at least twice. I think I looped it at Morosso after Ray Hartman missed the chicane and I did not want to collect him. I still finished 3rd which was one of my best races considering I am usually found dead last at most of these races. It might have been another BB/LM, we have had more than ten but not quite fifteen or so of them go through our hands over the years.

The car was race ready a few times over the years and was run by several of my clients to good effect.

I have not seen it for a few years after Paul got it.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Now I know why boxer road cars are missing the minispares from time to time.
