A quick question to those of you in either BC or Alberta. As a 35 year old claims free driver of an 84 308 QV, what might insurance cost in each of Alberta and BC?

In BC I know about ICBC, there are no cheaper classic / collector car insurance options that I am aware of. How costly is comprehensive insurance as a consequence?

In Alberta, is there collector or classic car insurance available?

Thanks for the info in advance.

PM me and I'll explain how to get very very reasonable insurance on exotic cars... ie. $2,500 per year for a $300,000 car.

I have my TR insured with them under classic car for $1000

You need to have a certain driver rating etc but that is expected.

Glad to know classic insurance is available. Thanks.

As for British Columbia, I guess there is no answer to that one.

I've seen 308's and TR's with Classic plates out here in BC, but can't drive to work at any time and mileage limitations. $500/yr? don't remember.

I priced a 308GTB QV for "business" with ICBC - $2m liability, max discounts - think it was $1,600. I got a kick out of it becaused I double-confirmed with them that a BB512i was only $1,300 for the same coverage. this was for full ICBC coverage - I hadn't checked a broker to check out the other options for comprehensive.

    your experience will vary.

Most of my clients have coverage thru ING....my dealer plates are insured with ING.

$1400-1700 a year with a $1000-2500 deductible, and no glass coverage, is common for cars up to $150K if you have a documented track record of no claims for 5 years.

So for BC, ICBC offers some sort of "classic" insurance? I didn't know that.

As for Calgary, it sounds like there are a few options.

    Thanks,

    John

To obtain classic car insurance in BC you need a daily driver that is also insured in your name. In other words if your Ferrari is your only car, well then, forget about milage or work use, you’re hooped anyway.

The collector plate program is a real great incentive for owning a classic car out here in BC. I have the requisite third party coverage from ICBC (that everyone must have) which only cost me $170 for the full year ($2 million third party coverage). For the collision and comprehensive portion, I went with BCAA who offer a collectible car policy that has an agreed value option (be ready with an appraisal for that). And that only cost me $330 for the full year. I'm 28 with 11 years no-fault accident-free driving record.

Only restrictions are that it be used for pleasure use only (no going to or from work/school) and you must have another car for that purpose. It should also be kept stock and be in very nice condition.

As far as I'm aware, Aircare tests only the idle emissions for the collector plates, you don't need to run it on the dyno and its a one-time only test.

If I had insured my GT4 for daily use, it would come out to something like $1800... No question I'll keep the Collector plates!

That's great. I have an old MB as a daily driver, so the 308 would only be a fair weather car. I am considering the move for work, if the insurance for my 308 went through the roof, it would be a consideration.

When I was getting ready to leave Quebec, I had the choice of either moving to Alberta (Calgary), or to BC (Vancouver). I chose BC and have never regretted it. Calgary is a beautiful city, but the weather is too wacky. In Vancouver its either gorgeous, or rainy. Rain is very easy to put up with :p
