Guys, I saw a kid get killed on a crotch rocket this morning and it has been on my mind all day. He hit a concrete retaining wall on a bridge and died pretty much on impact. I arrived on the scene a few minutes after it happened while the paramedics were zipping him up. So, if you ride a bike, be careful. Someone will miss you if you don't make it home. My prayers go out to his family.

Just like guns and fast cars, you can't be afraid of them but you ought to have a healthy respect for them.

As for women, you can be afraid of them.

My prayers go out to his family as well. It's not just bikes, but kids on any vehicle can lead to a serious accident. A friend of mine told me about a car accident near her house, where 4 teens (actually, I think they were all about 20 years old) were in the car. There were cones on the road and the driver was going between them. Well, he ended up flipping the car 4 times and the passenger in the front seat died. This happened in Middletown and the cops are always giving kids tickets, due to the fact that there have been several fatalities in the past few years.

On a lighter note, I just want to say hi to everyone and I recently joined this site. I've been enjoying it for awhile and I finally got around to becoming a member. It's been both informative and entertaining and I look forward to hearing more from you guys in the future.

Ok, time to hit the sack..have a goodnite everyone

No..never show a women fear....if they sense that, they will rip you to shreds. Don't those animal shows mention how to not show fear if you confront a wild animal? It's been awhile since I watched Animal Planet..or encountered a psycho woman

Exactly why i will never get a bike. I'm not stupid, but on any type of motorcycle (atv, dirt bikes, etc) im at a complete loss to the bike and have to max it out. Don't know what it is, but it's stupid.

A guy my friend worked with quit riding because of the exact same thing you mentioned. He was riding with this guy and his other buddies(all long time experienced riders). The guy was going way to fast and the road curved under the bridge slightly, and he saw the impact and said his body was like an acordian. The guy told me he rode the bike home, parked it and sold it as fast as he could.

The saddest thing is that the vast majority of riders use common sense and ride respectably reasonable and it's the other drivers that the moto riders have to worry about. I've seen far too many close calls of idiots not paying attention and not seeing the bike. I always scoot over so they know i see them. They usually wave or shake their head in thanks.

If you invest the insurance rates with Jim's company instead, you'll have a black Enzo before you know it...

I was following a 12 year old on one a few weeks ago and at a 'T' in the road, he whipped a U-Turn right in front of me (And I was expecting it). I did a U and followed him back to his house and told his dad I alomst killed his kid. He has not been on the street since that. The parents are more to blame than the kids (If they have knowledge of their street riding).

I have had kids on those things pass between me and another car on the interstate up the center dividing line. As sad as it sounds, it was never mentioned on the news last night because it happened early in the morning when there wasn't any traffic and no one else saw it but us and the maybe four other cars.

Um... When i lived in NY, insurance on my Sebring was around two grand - insurance on my bike was two hundred... If anything, i should get the bike, ditch the Sebring and invest THOSE insurance rates with Jim...

...but thanks for the tip... :)

Those thoughts are why I sold my Ducati......man was it ever fun, but at the same time when you start thinking these things you don't need to be riding. In a car it is much harder to get seriously injured. Small mistakes on a bike can have deadly results.

My advice to everyone thinking of riding is take the motorcycle safety course if you have never ridden. Even better though is to get a dirt bike and go learn how to crash. It sounds bad, but can make all the difference in the world!!

I used to race M/X professionally for the Kawasaki factory team back in the early 70's. When I decided to stop racing, I turned in my four race bikes to Kaw. They gave me a 900 as a parting gift. I laid it down twice the first month I had it because of people not seeing me. Once I slid it under a stopped 18 wheeler trailer and the other time slid it thru a gas station, hitting a gaspump after an idiot turned in front of me. I sold the bike and have not ridden since. I miss the M/X competition but my body reaffirms that my brain in making the right choice in staying off them.

And I considered myself a good rider, rode on the street sensibly and did nothing stupid like I witness the kids on the super quick crotch rockets doing now. They absolutely astound me with their lack of respect of for the bikes or anyone else they are riding around.

There was a thread on Fchat last month from someone who wanted advice on purchasing a bike. My advice was don't.... and I took some heat. I hope he reads this thread.

Unfortunately driving is becoming secondary to talking on the phone, eating, reading, etc for drivers today.

Yeah, but that's liability only! Try insuring a 'busa at zero deductible comp and collision... they want $10,000. :)
