Celebrating my 1,000th post. See the new photo contest that I am giving prizes on in the "Detailing and showroom" section. Special winner for Best 355 Image because I am biased. Read the rules. Don't miss it. Grab your cameras on the weekends and drive. Enter often. Robb
Robb, I'm shopping for my first DSLR and am considering the Nikon D5100 or the newer D5200. What are you thoughts is there something else I should consider in the same price range as either of these?
Erick, I think the 5200 is worth the difference in price. And you can get it in red... The optics are more important than the cameras after a certain point. Try to buy the body by itself and then add a good glass lens by Nikon to go with it. Get an ED lens that fits your focal length preference. Fixed focal lengths are generally sharper than zooms but you will have to use your feet to change the view. Or Spend 1000 on a good full frame zoom lens like the 24-120 and keep it forever even after you upgrade the body in 3-4 years. Don't get the kit lens that they offer with it. It is normally worth about $50 and made of plastic coke bottles... Robb
Dang, I just picked up the D5200 kit at Costco before reading your post about not getting the kit. Now I need to start taking some picures for the contest.
