If you take the mechanics of their music creativity, I think these two groups have a lot of similarities. Starting with the creation of the White Alblum, the Beatles (IMO) went beyond their time into a type of music that set the stage for other bands to mirror. Not so much as the music, but to set an example to other bands to REALLY get creative.

With the mix of symphony to rock and roll that Queen put out, I think both them and the Beatles were very much in front of the music game.

If this makes sense to you, do you think other groups such as Oingo Boingo and The Dead fall into this catagory?

Its pretty easy to tell (by their music) when the Beatles got into drugs.

Other groups do indeed fall into this category, Electric Light Orchestra, Yes and Procol Harum for starters.

I think the Talking Heads were really progressive, maybe more so than Oingo Boingo.

The "Dead" always sounded like (to me) a bunch of guys from different bands that never played together before, didn't do much for me technically but they did some great songs anyway, A Touch Of Grey being the most cohesive.

I heard a comedy skit last night that cracked me up, 'McCartney's Turning 64' Tour! He was singing in a voice with no teeth! It featured hits such as 'All you need is Polygrip', 'We all live in a yellow rest home' and another song I can't remember that featured Depends!

Even though McCartney is no longer a young pup, he can still fill a stadium and give a great show. I saw him on his last tour and he played for almost 3 hours and sounded great. The rest of us can only hope to have that much energy when we hit that age.

In the "bunny with a pancake on it's head" department: Anyone else watch "Rocky Horror" on cable and -- once you get past how weird it seems not to have all the weirdos on stage in front -- find that they actually like the music? ;)

I've heard that Susan Sarandon was nervous about doing a musical. Odd, because she has a beautiful voice. Or was that post-processing?

I've had "There's a Light" running through my head all day. :p
