While many people believe the Dino to be one of the most beautiful cars ever, a similar number believe the Fiat Multipla to be among the ugliest. In North America Multipla's were never sold so seeing one is quite the rare sight. Yesterday a friend brought by his latest acquisition and I thought it would be fun to shoot these two cars together.

Truth is that my wife has wanted a Multipla for years and now after driving one I will accelerate my search. They are terribly ugly but drive amazing. It will be the perfect addition to our fleet of odd Italian cars :)

I saw one of these while looking for Stratos parts in Italy. My first reaction was "man that's ugly" but my euro buddy said they are supposed to be good cars.

It's quite a popular car in Denmark especially among families with many children....Practicable but unbelievable ugly.

    Best, Peter

The side windows are so tall that they are taller than the door below them. For this reason they are not able to lower flush with the window sill.

From a driving perspective it is an incredibly good handling and feeling vehicle. The sight lines are incredible and it is very comfortable and spacious. The Multipla's practicality and driving was universally loved in period even if its looks were not. The BEST description I ever heard for the Multipla is that it is like a strip joint. You are embarrassed walking to and from it but once inside you have the best time :)

When I worked for DaimlerChrysler, I had the design studio order one for the fleet for everyone to experience. I fell in love with it! You sat up above traffic. 3 across seating. Most couldn’t get beyond the styling. I thought it was endearing, clever and fun! Really capable and functional. I drove it in Michigan and California. Giugiaro created the Capsula. I LOVE these types of concepts!

Well, like any other MiniVan or SoccermomUtilityVehicle, need for one these too can probably be prevented with adequate use of efficient contraceptives.

Timo really, in Italy? The Pope? Contraceptives in the late 50's early 60's?
4,5, or even 6 was the norm, everyone had them :)

Kids of course, and a Multipla. My parents, thankfully, only had 1, so sports cars would do,
and sitting in wherever, was the norm, of course no seat belts.

A miracle I survived those years and a war here.

    Regards, Alberto
