I just changed my old cassette head unit (stock Becker) out to the CD player unit that looks the same, the Becker 6104. The brightness of the display seems much dimmer than the previous unit, and the brightness does not follow the instrument panel. It seems to have a single level dull green glow. It takes more time to glance down and see the display than the older one.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same, and if this is normal, or is a defect.

I'm keeping it as stock as possible, so I do not want to discuss aftermarket solutions, just want a proper 6104 as I can return this one if it is truly not working correctly.

If you are used to the cassette version the 6104 is more difficult to read both layout/typeface & brightness - there is a reverse display in the settings option list which might help

Thanks for the input. I also called Becker and they said that unit doesn't change illumination and suggested using that reverse/negative display mode which I had already enabled. I guess it is worth having a bit better head unit until I find the next model up to replace it.

Now I know why so many responses to stock stereo questions are "replace it." :)
