A word of caution....if you honestly think that the MAF screen is holding you back from some major hp/torque gains go ahead and take it out, most really good shops will be glad to pull your engine for some $$$$ work after you screw everything up.

I challenge anyone on this forum to produce actual(factual dyno data) to support MAF screen removal....to date I have seen nothing here or on any other forum on the web to support this butcher job using the stock OEM parameters built into the Motronic ECM and all the stock OEM supporting devices/systems.

If you are wanting to mess around with this system you had better be way smarter than a 5th grader.

If you don't like your MAF then pull the whole system off and use speed/density.

The MAF screen matrix is a bit tight/dense IMO ...... and I may consider doing 'electrical output tests' using different 'density' screens or a 'deburred/smoothed' version of the same factory Bosch design. But I would absolutely not remove it completely, because it does serve a valid functional purpose. Especially because we have two flows, merged from opposite directions right in front of the MAF, which is bound to create some 'pressure fluctuations'.

I know the MAF itself is calibrated under 'condition' the air going through it, is of equal mass/density across the entire flow area of the MAF. This 'screen' ensures that is the case, under all operating environments our cars would see during service. If it is removed completely the air will indeed have varied density/mass across the flow area, which would hinder the ability of the MAF to send a consistently accurate signal to the ECU of the amount of air going through it. Which IMO is very important for proper fuel metering.

First off, very impressive metalwork on these boxes Goth!

As for the MAF, I agree 100% you need the flow straightener. Here's the problem though with looking at output voltage to validate a change - the MAF can't tell direction of airflow, just velocity. So if there's turbulence it may change the voltage without increasing forward velocity much. Make sense? Back in school I did some fun work in small wind tunnels with hot wires and laser doppler velocity measurements, fun stuff!

Here's one for the Goth labs, set the intake up on a bench, make a clear window in the MAF to see what's going on, pull the air through on the engine side with a vacuum and feed in air from a humidifier!

Yes you are right the wire does not know direction .... ;). The biggest reason to have the screen is as you know, the hot wire only sees a 'sample' of the total air going through the MAF. So if there is more or less air going around the hot wire, that discrepancy will not be accounted for by the MAF signal to the ECU.

I do have a scaled down wind tunnel in the works ........ for various reasons .........

Beautiful finished product, goth! Nice packaging too. I've been running MAF-less for sometime and no issues. Our 348 intakes have so much tubing and distance between the airboxes and TB's with the MAFs located closer to the airboxes, I figure the air gets straightened out somewhere. Next step is to shorten the run or widen the tubing. Silly system on the 348 - looks nice from an exterior design standpoint, but what were they thinking in terms of airflow?! Of course goth ever the mad scientist of 348/355 tampering wants me to install a semicustom Weber injection system which has me thinking of starting a hedge fund... ;)

Free air filters also?? Now that is a helluva deal!!!!! Goth, how can you make any money selling them that cheap? You must have 50 hrs+ of design time into them..

Truth is, I way overbought F355 paper filters and need to get some shelf space back. :)

........ this it true ........ I did spend a lot of time coming up with a proper flow increase to complement the 355 breathing curve ....... if they flow too much, they will kill low/mid range power ........ flow too little and top end suffers ....... these will work well with a stock exhaust ..... but even better with a free-flow exhaust :D ........

I did my best to keep the cost 'affordable' ........ and being an owner, like you guys ....... I know what it is like to pay too much for some things just because they go on a 'Ferrari' ...................... but that said ............. Daniel just put the icing, a cherry and a stripper on the cake with this 'promo' .......... :D :D :D!!!!!!

You can have your stripper and eat it too.

or, does it go the other way 'round?

I'm very tempted to buy these, I have several questions: Since they are made out of alloy material do they get hot to the touch? (The factory intakes are never hot to the touch) Do they affect the sound coming out of the exhaust? Are there any HP gains with this set-up? I know other aftermarket manufactures always modify air intakes for HP gains but they also adapt some type of forced air turbines or something to increase HP.

The first set of tops (and free filters!) are headed to an Fchatter in the deep south. Hopefully we'll have some nice installation and 'driver experience' comments real soon!
