I know this may seem a dumb questions but as they say enquiring minds want to know. What is the long beep supposed to tell you when you shut down the engine and pull the key? Is it because the car is in neutral and you're supposed to leave it in first gear?
    Thanks
    Alan

Alan- Starting an F1 car (360s and 575Ms) in gear has caused some problems when owners forgot to select neutral before starting. In theory, should not be a problem, in practice, has been a problem. So some dealers were recommending their clients with short memories park in neutral with the parking brake on. Considering how weak the 360 parking brake is, not particularly good advice to me. Another consequence is the system beeping at you to say she is chapped off you left her in neutral.

So leave her in first gear and make one of your first steps selecting neutral while waiting for the Check OK lamp. The F1 system pressurizes when you open the door, so no problem there.

Of course, that is only my opinion and what it states in the owners manual. I am sure you will hear the opposite opinion shortly.

Thanks Terry that makes sense. On flat ground I'll leave it in neutral. I will remember to put it in first if on an incline.

I do the same thing. I also get that annoying long beep when I shut down in neutral.

Is it really weak? It goes to both rear wheels. I thought that was overkill. It looks like a single pot mini disc brake to me X 2. Why isn't this a good design?

Kevin- Read Brian Crall's explanation in the current edition of Forza. Basic reason is that as the rotor wears, the PB pad no longer contacts the rotor evenly, so you end up with a very small contact surface.

Interesting thread! I will try to leave it in 1... Please note that it happened to me once that I ended up with the F1 totally stuck after playing with the paddles without the engine running. Reason was that the battery was too low and it stopped half way during a gear change... SD2 needed...

Is this also an issue for an F1 F430? I have been almost always leaving the car in 1, and starting it in 1......no issues so far that I am aware of.

If the battery is low, it can cause a problem. Take a look in your owners manual. On the 575M and 360, it says to select neutral, but if you forget the system will select it for you. You can download an F430 OM for your hard drive and smart phone at ferraridatabase.com if you do not want to dig it out. If it says start in neutral like the earlier cars, it just eliminates one more step the system has to do before starting and is one fewer thing to go wrong.

Drivers with low batteries have had the car lurch forward when attempting to start in 1st, so the brake is a good idea if you continue to do that.

Hi Everyone, I was wondering whether there was a way to remove this annoying (at least to me) BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP when we stop the car in Neutral?

I park the car 99% of the time on flat surface and prefer to keep it in Neutral in general, so this Beep annoys me 99% of the time I drive this car so would be great if someone has found a way to remove that beep (I have a ThinkDiag OBD tool, same as Ratarossa).

    Thanks much

I know not directly related to the OP but could this be corrected with some application of the PB when coasting or on a descent? I use mine when driving sometimes when I am on a steep incline at a stop and I want to protect the clutch when I transition from brake to gas pedal but hadn't thought about conditioning the PB pads every now and again.

Just curious...why do you bother putting it in neutral? Just turn the car off and call it done. It resets to neutral every time you start it anyway.

Joe- Read the entire thread. It does not necessarily reset to neutral if the battery is low. Lurching forward starting in 1st gear has been noted on F1 Ferraris. The F430 OM says to select neutral before starting, not that anyone actually reads the OM.
