I used to drink the run of the mill crap beers like Bud, Coors, Miller, etcetera. What ever was cold and in the cooler at the BBQ. Then it became popular to drink Corona with lime. Well I figured out the lime is to hide the blandness of the beer. All my buddies drank a certain brand because that's what everyone drank, or it was the beer of choise at the time.

Well several years ago I got tired of drinking the run of the mill junk. This beer call Samual Adams came out. So I gave it a shot. It was different for sure. Darker, had more flavor, and was a bit more bitter. Well after that I started to try all kinds of dark beers. After years of drinking various brands I have a few favorites.

A little Phillipino beer by the name of San Miguel Dark is a very tastey beer.

Then a Mexican beer by the name of Negra Modelo is nice.

From our friends in England there is a beer by the name of Newcastle Brown, that is another good one.

One that I like to order when I'm eating out is called a Black & Tan. It's a dark stout, like Guiness, on the top, and a light lager, like Harp, on the bottom. Bass ale can be used also.

Now if I really want to drink a very heavy beer, BJ's brewery makes a very strong stout called Tatonka. Let me tell you that is one powerful beer. It's almost like drinking corbonated motor oil. BJ's also makes a very nice Hefeweisen, or wheat beer.

It really would be nice if the big beer companies got back to making nice tasting beers, instead of the yellow mass produced junk that they crank out now.

You live in California, therfore if you consume more than 1 beer in a lifetime you are considered an alcoholic! By their very nature, alcoholics have little grasp of reality, or sense of reason, so why should big business, i.e. Brewers, listen to someone with reduced mental capacity? I suggest you move to Florida where you are not treated as a hopeless drunk until you have consumed 2 beers in a lifetime!:D

For thirst quenching when it's really hot out, Coor's Lite seems to be fairly refreshing and it goes right through me. Over a good dinner or out at the pub, it's different, as I like an iced Foster or a bottle of Full Sail. At better brewing companies that have decent restaurants, I'll order a sampler and really enjoy the different tastes.

LOL, it actually is the reverse. You are considered odd if you don't get drunk when you drink. I like to have a couple of beers but I don't like getting drunk. My friends even make fun of me because it takes me so long to finish a bottle of beer. I drink beer the same way you would a can of soda pop. You don't sit down and finish a twelve pack of Coke by yourself.

However you Brits drink and drink and drink. I was over last year, in Newcastle non the less, and after Sunday church the guys would go down to the club. Here a glass of beer is about 16oz., but you maniacs drink a pint at a time. SO the guys at the club are buying me pints, and after my third glass I put my hand on the top and say, "thank you but this is my last one". They all got this puzzled look on their face and asked if something was wrong. LOL. Well do you think that was the end of it, nope. We go back to the house for dinner, then it is off to the pub. Land SAKES MAN!!!! We just finished drinking a couple of hours ago. If I didn't know better I would think you guys had beer in the baby formula. Hahahaaa.

Awesome website. Even tells you what kind of beer goes with what kind of food. Yesterday I tried some EKU Pils which was probally the best Pilsner I've ever had in my life. My favorite types of beer though are dark beers. I like Newcastle becuase it's easy to find and cheap. I love going to the Liquor store and just finding new import beers I've never heard of before and giving them a try. F uck, I just love beer period!

I've become a fan of the BJ's red, but the Tatonka is a bit much.

I kinda wish they'd offer their brands in a bottle.. but since I usually order dinner with my beer I guess they really have no motivation to do so. ;)

They do........well sort of. You can get a growler, basicly a half gallon of beer, from them. That's how I buy the Tatonka. The only problem is that they recomend you drink it within two days. I can't drink more than two glasses of that stuff at a time. It really is some super potent stuff.

German beers are hard to beat for all-around drinkability and variety, but the Belgians have everybody beat fo' sho'. :) Granted a great German weissbier like a Berliner Kindl Weiss (particularly with woodruff syrup) is about as good of a warm weather beer as you'll find anywhere...ooh, that or a Bitburger pils. :D But for sheer variety the Belgians definitely take the prize. There are more breweries per capita in Belgium than any other country in the world I believe, but I don't recall offhand the numerical figure for it. In this warm weather it's hard to beat a witbier like Hoegaarden or Manekin Pis or a lambic of any flavor.

As an Aussie who's been here for almost a year, I must say that the price of beer here is very appealing.... the beer itself is not.

I would kill for a VB.... or 6

I have given up and am starting to brew my own.
