It's really amazing the transformation the two of you have gone through. Just looking at those photos may be enough to keep you at it for years to come... I know for me it helps.

Dolly's Pizza and Qdoba, and generally poor eating habits anyway... and very little activity. But yes, Jets is not such a bad pie :)

When I have Pizza (once in the last 3 months), I don't eat the whole thing :p Just about 2 slices.

I too am single, and know it would be pretty tough to get new prospects being so out of shape... There are a couple of potential prospects now, but I'm in no hurry.

I've just taken the last 10 days off, as I've been quite busy, and had almost no motivation. I'm happy in that time, I've lost no muscle according to my logs. In that time, I have continued to lose some lbs, about 3 since 10 days ago. Not bad.

3 pounds in 10 days sounds like great progress to me :)

When I lived in Michigan in the 90's I had a MR2 as my only car (I was a Florida guy, what did I know?). So when it snowed...Jets Pizza kept me fed for days, since their delivery guy had a 4x4 LOL

Funny thing about being single/getting married. I got married when I was out of shape, my wife liked talking to me. Some women seem to place more stock in what you have to say than what you look like. I found that interesting. I didn't feel to date-able in those days.

As for losing weight. I do it in steps. I lost 20 pounds in the last few months... and I just finished taking 10 days off from my hard diet, and just maintaining my weight. Now I'm rested and ready to start hitting it hard again to go for the last 10 pounds. Holidays can be tricky but as long as a 2 day holiday of eating, doesn't turn into a 7 day week of eating, I tend to be okay.

    :)

My weight loss comes in binges as well. I was actually surprised the scale read what it did when I stepped on it yesterday. Cal in < Cal. out.

As far as the holidays, I'm not terribly concerned for Thanksgiving and Christmas... but for NYE, at least two trips to Giordino's for their Chicago Deep Dish + heavy beer drinking will set me back at least 1-3 lbs :p

I was wearing shirts under my shirts to keep my *****-tits from showing up too much. My goal for the end of Jan. is 100 lbs... we shall see.

    Cool photos :)

It looks like we are in the same boat. My goal for end of January is 100 lbs also. And I have the same problem with just one of the holidays... (even worse for me)

I'm going to try and lose 110 so I can gain 10 back on Christmas.. and still be at 100 off by the end of Jan.

My wife booked us on a 10 day cruise ship for Christmas :D But :( the food :(

Hopefully I can get enough exercise on our port intensive trip (St John, Bonaire, Dominica, Grenada, Aruba, Cayman)....without sitting around too much on an all-you-can-eat cruise ship.

Good luck... I hope we both make our goals.

    Nice looking girls there Isaac.

You can do it! Or just allow those 10 days to be your cheating for the next 6 months.

I like your logic.... can't believe I didn't think of that already LOL ...but that would be too hard.

Actually, I'm hoping that if I spend enough hours in the cool water without a dive skin (we love to snorkel for hours) that I'll burn some good calories between the swimming and heat loss.

I eat a lot but I lose weight when I go on vacation. I just exercise a LOT more. On a cruise ship, you can run, swim, dance, climb, do body weight-resistance exercises, take classes, lift weights, snorkel, hike while docked, etc., etc. Just make lots of friends and set appointments to do different things with different people throughout each day. Start with yoga, end with yoga and a hot tub soak, if you can. In between, go crazy.

I make a point of eating only fruits for snacks and salad only for one meal, other than that I have huge breakfasts (fuel up for an active day) and big dinners, but no bread or heavy refined flour stuff like pasta..if it cannot be avoided, load up on the sauce and protein so you don't have as much room on your plate for the pasta itself. Big dinners are not the best idea, but what are you going to do. I also eat a snack just before so I don't have as much of an appetite.

In general, if you exercise enough, you will be fine. Every moment you want to lie in the sun, spend it in the pool, where you are constantly moving against water resistance and
chances are, you will get roped into games of shark, water polo, volleyball, etc. Burn those (kilo)calories.

Enjoy your cruise, and use it as an opportunity to accelerate your weight loss.

And yeah, go easy on the alcohol.

Nice shots William, very motivational. Glad to see some of us are still going strong!

My wife can still workout hard, and I'd like to.... but I'm so careful now, not to get hurt. At my age- 44 and after a few injuries (surfing and gymnastics)... I have to go for consistency instead of intensity. :(

I miss the days of lifting heavy and going all out. I am now on a path that I call slow and steady (it sucks) I feel like I'm using girl's weights. LOL

I did dig-out an old photo from college. Put it up on the bathroom mirror for motivation, as I slowly work towards getting back in-shape for swim suit season, May 1st 2010 :D

That's awesome William. Very cool to see a little bit of someone else's workout.

    Great progress!

Good luck William, I'm right there with you... I hit 201 today.

I had been on a plateau for the first 12 days of November... but now I got my numbers moving down again. I just needed the rest before hitting it hard, after 2 months of non-stop dieting

Now I'm trying hard to break 199 before Thanksgiving hits and everything slows down (from a weight loss perspective) for the long holiday weekend.

Thanks for the kind words. Funny thing is that my lats where the last thing to grow. LOL

I did 10,000 pull-downs and for the longest time... nothing! Funny how genetics works. I finally got lats but it was the last thing my body wanted to do. (My lifting partner had lats but no legs... we both teased each other endlessly. Fun times)

I know. Sort of Monty Python-ish... when you say it that way :D

It was great to be in my 20's. Now I want to see if I can re-claim some of that for my 45th birthday. It just took getting motivated again, and back into a simple routine. Amazing how much of this is mental.

I think my resting (or being lazy) the last few weeks have helped me break through. I needed to shock my body again.

Word. I've been at 215 for a long time, and only now have I started to break through that. I'm 211 right now, and on a tear to get to 206 by Thanksgiving. I REALLY want to be in the 190's by Christmas.
One of my friends only decided to do that in his 40's... and maxed out at about 245 lbs of pure muscle. He made one mistake, and that was to enter some bench press competitions, and hurt his shoulder in the process. He's still in fantastic shape 6 years on. I think he was able to do just under 400 lbs.

That is, if that is a goal of yours this time around. Not being fat is my first goal. My goal for next year is this

If by November 20, 2010, you are able to replicate that video, I'll Paypal you $100. And I don't mean that in a "There's no way on earth you'll be able to do it" way either.

Oh, there is almost no way I'd be able to do that many. The goal is at least one in good form. That said, I don't think it will be easy ;) I'll admit, I have a friend who will be giving me pointers when my bf % is down enough to begin training some of the unused muscles, and improve my balance abilities.

    Me too Good Luck

I spent months making my forearms strong before I started doing pullups again

Now my forearms are nearing huge and the pull ups make my lats explode

I tore some muscles in my forearm doing pullups over 200# so I made sure they were nice & strong before I hit the pull up bar

I need to do that next. Thanks, your story is very helpful.

I have a damaged deltoid (right shoulder) from a surfing accident... I can't work chest, shoulders, or arms with heavy weights, so I've stuck with working back & legs and its worked fine for weight loss purposes (since they are the bigger muscles groups and burn more calories anyway).

But every time I go heavy, my shoulder goes out. And then it takes a long time before it heals. I'm going to have to go slow, light weights and take some time to really build it back to strength once-and-for-all.
