Hi my 348 has the beginning of bubbling on the inside edge of the rear wheel arches (the
Sharp edge) it’s not bad but I am doing other repairs which requires paint. What’s the proper way to repair these, cut out the inside flat strip and weld in new metal? That’s going to be quite difficult to avoid distortion. The picture attached shows the worst part of the arch, obviously I need to do some welding at bottom! Image Unavailable, Please Login

I wish I could give you an answer, but bodywork is the one thing that I avoid.

Rust is cancer. Grind down to bright metal and cut out and replace anything pitted or rusted through. Break the tig out and go slow to keep the metal cool... or, farm it out to a restoration shop.

Generally, if you try and weld up a rust hole, you're just going to blow through and make a mess. Only real option in most cases is to cut out and replace with fresh metal. If you've got a small pin hole after removing all rust to show the bright metal, you make be able to use a copper plug on the back side to sink heat into and pool some weldment into the hole.
