    This is way overdue, a chainless bike. I've been looking for a good road bike for years but recent marketing only pushes the "extreme" sport style. Who needs knobby tires for a street bike? Never made any sense to me.

    But this new Trek goes a step further by replacing the chain with a Gates carbonfiber cogged belt drive. No fuss, grease, dirt, noise, etc. I like it and expect a model for the masses (lower cost) will be forthcoming.

    And I would assume that these bikes will become dirt cheap in two years time. The trickle-down technology effect on bikes is quite fast.

    There's a couple of companies now offering shaft-drive bicycles. I don't know how good they are, but they look neat in the stores

    Long overdue! I always wondered why they didn't use belts on bikes. I mean, you have strong belts in your car, it isn't rocket science...
