(Sound elevates with engine rpm) I know the general remedies....but just wanted to confirm if there was some ferrari 308 specific cause and or long term solution?

One was doing the same thing couple of years ago and it turned out to be my alternator belt being loose, I tightened it up and the squeaking is gone. Check your belts and adjust in necessary.

yes mike is right most likely loose alt/h2o pump belt its crazy hog tight they need to be. If you burn it off, check that all the pulleys are in alignment. If not you will repeatedly eat up a lot of belts

It could be a prelude to your water pump failing. I would hand turn the pump to see if the bearing is failing rather than just tightening the belt. If it’s the water pump bearing, the belt will break.

A good test would be while it is making the noise spray water in it and see if it goes away for a min or so ..than you know it is the belt

Loosen the two nuts that holds the alternator then find a way to retract or move the alternator. It is kind of difficult because of the location of the nuts. I had to use a long extension about 3 feet with the wobble type socket at the end because the angle where it’s at is very tight.

No, pull the wheel and liner. Having the car lifted will make it 10x easier, too.

I chased such a squeal for years. Turned out to be a bad cam belt tensioner bearing. Luckily I caught it in time. Worth a check.

Only time I've been stranded was a squeaky belt that soon turned into a burned and shredded belt. Get it fixed asap.

^^^ the pivot bolt on the alternator is a royal *****. I welded a tab to the nut so that I do not need to put a wrench on it. No longer have to raise the car to change that belt.
