Just wondering if any owners of Bend Pak MD-6XP mid lifts see any reason why one could NOT install a MD-6XP recessed into a concrete garage floor. This would save having to build ramps to allow clearance for a TR to be driven over it. I am NOT concerned with it being portable...............My concern is that there would be no interference with it's movement (up & down). Of course I would install steel runners in the recess for the wheels to track smoothly when it is being operated.

Any input pro or con would be appreciated................Kerry

Don't want to have to deal with this kind of "floor clutter". Don't get me wrong, this is a great install, but I would prefer to have NO ramps if possible...........

Reason for not wanting the floor being cluttered is that my garage is able to fit 3 vehicles .............but ..........end to end. Garage is deep, but width only allows one vehicle. No side by side parking allowable. Single door..........

I almost wish I had done that with mine, but my 308/GT4 clears just fine. If you do recess the pads, be sure to make them substantial. I made mine 2' X 2' X 2' and folded the rebar into the surrounding pad. Take extra care to make sure the pad is absolutely flat or you won't be able to swing the arms. Oh, and we found we had to shim the base to get it level, so leave room to insert the shims and have a handful around when you install. We made them from 2" X 1/8" bar stock.

Not sure about your lift but check out the in floor install for the SP7 or the SP7x from Bend Pak. It can be surface mounted or in floor. In the link above I posted a jpg of what is needed for the in floor mounting of this lift. You'll have to call Bend Pak and see if it can be done with your lift.

http://www.bendpak.com/cart_product_detail.php?prod_id=264&cat_id=49 Here is a link to the Bend Pak SP7X full rise scissor lift. You can get it without the ramps if you are mounting it in the floor.

Thanks for the pix Bill...........Gives me confidence that my new Bend Pak will work well when countersunk a couple of inches. Talked with Bend Pak and was told that it would need a 4" minimum concrete base to rest on......So I've arranged for 6" and some rebar just to make sure. Also the BP people suggested that I leave one end of the "cut-out" in the floor ramped so I could easily remove the lift and locate it else where in the garage or outside...........Great idea I thought, so I have decided to incorporate that as well.

I thought about leaving a ramp to get it out but decided against it. The 1 or 2 times I moved it it was just as easy to lift the end with the dolly and pull it out.
