I've been horrified to discover that a previous owner apparently tried to violently remove the oil pan. I couldn't even get the tube out of the hole, I was removing the pans anyway so I was able to retrieve it, but I've buttoned the car back up and haven't put it back, I'm sourcing a replacement. In the meantime, how crucial is this part? Will the tip of the dipstick really career off course without it? Will the oil level reading be incorrect? I don't know how it would be. Does anyone know for sure? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I know for sure this. If it really wasn't needed Ferrari would not have gone to the expense to install it. I won't bother to explain why but car manufacturers don't install unnecessary mechanical parts.
Mine suffered the same fate from a previous owner. Except his mechanic managed to break the end of the dipstick off so he over filled it with oil by 7 qts during the service and wouldn'tyou know it, oil filled the intake and made a beautiful smoke screen, so...... without investigation he sold it and that's how I got my car. I just made a new pipe on my lathe and bought another dipstick. Not hard to do really. Hope you get it solved!
