Next door neighbor backed out of his driveway and hit the left rear bumper of my 360. Also damaged was the tubi exhaust pipes on the left side. They were bent slightly to the right. Anyway, my question is, will there be any harm to the engine with driving the car? (need to take it down the David Freed in Los Angeles to be repaired). thanks for your input, the neighbors insurance won't reinburse me for the shipping of the car if it is driveable.

Unless it is very bent, enough to restrict exhaust flow, it shouldn't harm the engine. My biggest concern is that if the pipes are touching the bumper it could cause it to catch fire. I have seen 348/355 challenge cars set their bumpers on fire because of heat from the exhaust system.

I bet if they know much much it is just to replace the Tubi they may change there minds about paying for a shipper... Cost to fix a bent pipe verse cost to replace the entire muffler...

I don't want to rain on you parade, and I hope it is just a minor thing but it could have overloaded the manifold and broken or cracked the head or header attach bolts, it could cause a loosened exhaust manifold gasket, you get an exhaust leak at the head and it runs a little lean and takes out the valves on that cyclinder. Could be $20k damage without working too hard on it. Wont show for a while though. Hope its just a new tip though.

I would want a full system replacement personally, not worth risking or messing with, you didn't ask to be hit in the rear and just because your neighbors insurance won't cover shipping doesn't mean he can't pay for his own mistakes. Good luck and hope everything works out.

Bent slightly to the right? If you cannot hear any exhaust leaks from the manifold because of (cracked manifold or broken manifold bolts).....then just drive it. :) As long as the bent tips/pipes are not touching the rear bar. Ive never heard or seen them catch on fire because the exhaust was touching the rear bar, but it will do a good job of melting it. :p

    Me too! :(
I used to make/install/modify exhaust systems on cars and light trucks. I have repaired/straightend many exhaust systems also. Heat it up with an oxy/accetelene gas and try and straighten it. Sometimes you just cant get 100% straight. All depends on how badly it is bent. Every job is different. If his 360 Tubi aint too bad, then he may get away with it. The look of it will never be as nice as it was if you do straighten it too. Have you ever bent pipe and re-straightend it? You can always see where it has been repaired. Personally.........if I paid AU$5K(what a Tubi is worth here) for an exhaust that was as pretty as a Tubi, then Id ask the insurance company to replace. Or get your neighbour to pay for it if you can.

The insurance agreed to pay for a new Tubi exhaust, etc. total to be paid at this pt. is $11,500 for all repairs, painting, etc. The only thing they are balking on is paying for the shipping of the car down to LA. They are claiming the auto was driveable. I would need to miss at least one day of work to drive the auto to be repaired. I'm going to fight this big time, and appreciate your responses. Some of it I will use.

Good to hear you have had some sort of a win so far. :) $11,500 is alot of money for some paint repair and new Tubi isnt it?? Are you sure they are not paying for shipment of the car? :)

Point out to the insurer that you are willing to drive the car to the repair shop because they have advised you that the car is OK to do so. Then mention how much more the claim will be if they are proved wrong...bet they will pay for shipping then. ;)

If a Tubi is $5,000 that "only" leaves $6,500 for a new bumper, paint, labor on the exhaust, and any trim or mounting hardware. Actually, although its almost half of what you could buy a decent 308 for, it sounds about right. As far as getting the car to LA, if it were me I wouldn't take the chance driving it and would pay for the flatbed myself (if the ins. co is balking)

That was AU$5K for 348 TUBI. How much in US dollars for 348 TUBI? US$3-4K max! Not sure what a 360 TUBI sells for? Also he mentioned painting, which I assumed of the old rear bar.....a new one wasnt mentioned by him. But either way, whatever. Its being repaired, so thats the main thing. Any insurance quote gets 'over-quoted' anyways. They always make a little more from insurance jobs. Thats what its like here with paint/panel shops. :) As long as they do the repair/paint beautiful, then I would be happy. :)
