I purchased new tires last week and the installer told me one of my rear wheels was bent (great roads here in PA). Has anyone here had any luck repairing their own wheels? Is this a job for a specialist? I have to do something because of a significant vibration at certain speeds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Take the wheel to a business that specializes in straightening out alloy wheels. One that we use in NJ is US Wheel in Fairfield, NJ Phone: (973) 227-7977. Give them a call. They might be able to recommend a place near you.

I had an 8in rear ruined by a top national company, its a long story but I took it to a master welder and it was really well done and worked just about perfect but it had a teeny tiny leak so the guys at a shop I worked convinced me to send it out and they tried really hard to weld up a low spot with an aluminum mig, they didnt quit untill they tried the highest setting. Then they ground off the lip and ruined it for good. Then I traded a pair of 355 fronts for a wheel that I didnt discover was a knock off untill I joined FC 2 yrs latter. If that is a 16 be real carefull and find a master welder.

That really sucks. I guess I thought you guys were gonna tell me to pound it straight with a big hammer. I never would have thought welding would be part of the process. I may leave well enough alone. The car has been plagued with problems for over a year (deer strikes, broken fog lights and cylinder head replacement). The last thing I want is another abbreviated driving season.
