guys bentley GT..... what do you think of it? as a daily driver is it only a 50+ yr old's car or cool for the more youthful i saw a bentley 60th anniversary car and really loved it hot car. ceramic brakes (420mm discs!), cross stitched leather, plenty of power albeit a slightly large car. they can be incredible with the right wheels... yss Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are beautiful and powerful cars. I don't consider them an "old man's car" at all. I'm looking to buy a used one as a daily driver and have been researching and watching my local dealer's stock for 'bout a month and a half or so. Go for it. Great car!
5,600 lbs! A friend notes that on high speed desert runs he can hit over 150mph in the Continental GT on stretches where his previous 996 GT2 only hit ~140mph.
they are really like jets. It is nuts. I still can't believe it when I see people just fly from a stop in one.
LOL, yes, I have thought about that. My wife asked if I would sell the Ferrari as the GT would definitely be a much faster drive. The 328 is a different driving experience from the Bentley but I am sure that the power of the GT would quickly become intoxicating! I guess we'll just have to see what happens.
Plenty of ages groups in this car. Not just an "old Man" car. Drives great! and the power really pushes you in the back.
My wife just traded her coupe for a GTC - I considered keeping the coupe to be my daily driver and long trip car. I didn't like the car at all at first, found it a little - I don't know - showy? It grew on me, though; it's a comfortable ride, decent nav and stereo, great torque, a good sized trunk ... not a sports car at all, of course. We had no problems with our coupe, an '04, but put very little mileage on it, so we not be a fair test. I let it go because I prefer something a little less noticeable for daily driving - actually, my Audi station wagon, my mommy car. I wonder about long term resale value of the cars, as there seem to be many for sale around the country. I agree with you about the diamond anniversary cars, by the way, I like them, too. And I understand Bentley has a fair amount of flexibility in appointing the cars, though not as much as with the Azure and Arnage. Good luck.
a good friend just bought one....very comfortable and fast, but in a smooth, quiet , luxurious way, very different than a sports car like ferrari, lambo and porsche....the car handles well for its size, but it still weights over 5000lbs and you feel it...light and nimble it aint!!!! in the flesh its a nice looking car, esp in darker colors, but the styling doesnt excite me in the way a ferrari or lambo does...its would be a nice daily driver, esp when the price on a used model drops to 100k, but its still not a substitute for a sports car.....
"By the end of this year you will see the GT hit the 100k mark." Wouldn't surprise me. Does anyone know production numbers? The GTs hardly seem rare. I think the GT may always suffer from a bit of a perception that, as someone expressed here a while ago, it's not a "proper" Bentley. It's certainly a complex machine; I wonder whether a depreciated but out of warranty car might not be a risk. I can't provide any numbers on operating costs because we put only 5,000 miles on our '04, and it performed flawlessly over that small distance. I agree with the comment above that the car drives much lighter than it is. FWIW, and as I said before, I very seriously considered hanging on to my wife's coupe as a regular driver. If you like the controversial styling, and don't have another favorite in this very competitive price range, I think the GT is a good choice.
I don't know if it will hit 100k by the end of the year but it will be close. Some 04's can be had for 120's today so it seems reasonable. To be fair though in 04 they had an MSRP of 149 so with the average 10k in options say an 04 car was 160 the depreciation is actually way better than say a Mercedes. As far as a daily driver, I have both a new Cont.GT and a few year old Arnage and I think the Cont. is a great daily. It has all the creature comforts and has a ton of power as well as awd for the bad weather. I would feel better with an extended warranty but I think if you like the looks they are great cars.
It is currently possible to get a GT in the high 110s. According to BusinessWeek Bentley aims to produce 3500/yr, hardly that exclusive. That coupling with the fact that several people are trading in their GTs for Convertibles and that warrantys will start being up this year, 100k is not unlikely.
Saw one here in Scottsdale hit the gas on the 101. It was quite wonderful to watch. So much power, yet so graceful at the same time.
"Deliveries have already started." We took delivery in Dec., just in time for the global warming heatwave here in the mid Atlantic US.
I've put between 4-6 thousand miles spread between 2 different GTs. I've driven them in and out of NYC, up to Boston and back, in the worst rain storm I've EVER experienced, snow, etc- and they've been nearly flawless. The only issue deals with the electric odometer/gear screen- which was a quick fix under warranty. GDC has one with 30k+ miles and 0 issues whatsoever. It's faster in a straight line to 150 than a 360 (found that out for myself) as well as nearly any other car on the road.. 552hp is ridiculous. Gas mileage is awful for a daily- in line with the E60 M5- between 8-12 miles depending on how hard you push it.. The sound system is the best stock system I've ever heard, the backseats are fully functional for adults, the trunk fit golf clubs and luggage, and as previously stated, the AWD can take on inclement weather as well as any other car on the road. It's got a pretty cool lift system (air suspension?) that allows you to raise and lower the car for speed bumps, bad roads, snow, etc- which makes it even more tractable. Aesthetically, it's subtle enough to be parked anywhere- but draw attention and admiration when desired. I've been fortunate enough to experience/drive most of the modern exotics- and if you were to have one as a daily, this is the car..
Kenny: great review of the car, I agree with you. I believe a few not insignificant features have been added since the 04s - perhaps someone can enumerate them. Townshend: dark sapphire over magnolia. I prefer the saddle colored leather to magnolia; the latter is too light for regular use, I think. I have been told by the owner, however, to mind my own business and stay away from her car.
Great color combination, seems like we have very similar taste-- my girlfriend's car is Dark Sapphire on Saddle leather with blue trim around the wheel. The other car is Silver Tempest with Saddle leather.. And, I don't really see it hitting 100k by the end of the year- but if it does, I can't see it dipping too much below that until at least the new series of BMW/Mercedes comes out.. It's just soo much more of a car than the CL500/ Maserati/BMW M6.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
They are spookie fast, you wont realise you are going 90 til you look at the spedo! They look great with wheels and the make exhaust and chips that bring them to around 660hp. I have two now a coupe and a GTC. I am not a old man either, though I bought one for my dad who is 70, and he loves it put 45,000 miles on it in two years (also two bumpers, but he is old). I say go for it, it is Bentey style and VW quality.
When I bought mine at Euro there was a blue/magnolia car on the floor and a gentleman and his wife were there looking at the car and saying they bought a similar color that should be in any day. Was that you guys? At first I was a bit disapointed with the cloth top instead of a hardtop convert but I must say it is top notch. From the inside since you can pick the color of the inside of the roof and it has a light in the middle of the soft top it doesn't even seem like its a convert.
