What do you think about this car...worth it for $30-40K?? I've been seeing this beautiful royal blue one around and it still stuns me every time.

Do NOT buy a old bentley! You will have to keep a file cabinit just for service bills. The parts are to fragile in the older bentleys and they cost to much. Unlike other car companys, bentley makes their parts when ordered and does not keep them in stock. Its a good price for the bentley label but its is a nightmare to own. And trust me, I know, My dad had another bentley before his first arnage and he still keeps a entire drawer with the service records.
I may not know the ferrari line but sure do know bentley. Trust me DONT get it!

I have a close friend who had a mid 90s Turbo R and it was a nightmare. His wife refused to drive it it was so unreliable. He even talked about torching the car and I wasn't sure he was kidding (he sold it).

I would buy a new one now thou since its a completely different car - if my midwest farmboy upbringing would let me.

Don't let these guys scare you off so easily. We service and own many Bentleys including TurboRs from the 80s and 90s. The fargile parts are the suspension spheres and brake hydraulics. The fact is that the parts are expensive but they are tough. I would say that the $6k per year estimate is way high. You may have to throw a few grand at the car when you first get it but once it is in shape they are easy to care for. Try to get a post 1991 car for the updated fuel injection computers.

and honestly...who would buy a new mercedes when you can get a pre-phantom Rolls for the same price? Plenty of Silver Seraphs in the 60-80K range...and I'd say a little more timeless then a gaudy R-class! Well you get what I'm saying.

the turbo R is a cult icon.it may not be as reliable as a merc 500sec or whatever, but they're like fine watches....that need real TLC.
in the uk it's a bit easier to maintain;even on a BUDGET.
    there are alternatives,however.here they are:
    1)audi v8 quattro'92
    2)bentley arnage '96
    3)bentley continental '97
    4)aston martin virage '93
    5)aston martin lagonda '86-'90*
    6)merc 450 SEL 6.9 '75-'79

*now this PRECIOUS brute requires even more TLC than a turbo-r!!!

I agree my estimate of 6k per year MAY be high (I estimated based on the car needing servic 2x per years at 3k per vist.) But, while it may be high, this is within realistic possibility. I wanted passive optimist to understand what he may be getting into.

This is also not a worst case scenario kind of number!
