looking to purchase a new but standard (non-amg) g-wagon. is there a best value version of the g? is there anyone known to move the most volume and thus discount the most? prefer an east coast delivery. Thank you my f-chat friends. pcb
What do you mean when you say 'best value'? I am not sure if this still applies to the 2008 models, but when I purchased my G, there were no options (except maybe Designo), so there isn't really a 'base model'. It's either the G500, or the G55. Take this with a grain of salt, but if I were going to purchase a G, I would look at the Mercedes Benz of Naples, FL. I have almost no evidence to suggest they will be willing to discount, but here is what I am thinking: 1) Gas prices in the Naples area are quite high, so who wants to be driving a vehicle that gets 13mpg. 2) Naples vehicle sales are seasonal. The beginning of winter is when all the snowbirds typically come down and purchase a new model. Therefore, I don't think dealers do much volume during the end of the high season. Dealers might be more willing to negotiate during this time. 3) I bought my G in Manhattan (factory owned store, they wouldn't budge on price), but MB Naples has been good with other purchases. 4) They had a few on the lot last time I was there. 5) The G seems to be an unpopular car in Naples. Again, this is totally just me speculating, but you might try and see if I am right.
Hello Pete..... All I can offer is that I worked as an MB salesman for 8 years at a privately owned store........IMHO you should avoid the factory owned stores as Lester said.......they don't really discount much if at all.........buy it from a private franchise.
ironic that you said this but there happens to be a discounted unit at the naples dealership. discounted in excess of $6k. thank you both for the insight. pcb
Call Cary at Mercedes of Fayetteville, North Carolina. It is a small family owned dealership. He beat all deals - bought my G500 in December. 910-487-0000. He also beat all deals on a GL450 that I bought today for the wife. Best of luck, George Holding
George, I would be very interested in the deal you struck on the GL450. Also, what are your impressions on the vehicle? Obviously they are good since you bought it, but what are your general thoughts about the vehicle?
The GL450 is the best choice for our needs - 3 kids, lots of baggage, and good curb appeal for the wife. I like the way it handles and great punch. Sure it drinks gas like a drunken sailor drinks rum, but all suv's are drunks. Previous suv's have included 2007 Yukon, 2005 Yukon, Range Rover and LX470. GL is a better overall package as far as fit and finish and performance. I really think Mercedes has gotten their act back together after being in the doldrums from the mid 90's to the mid 00's. I would encourage you to give the GL a test before you buy any other suv.
My wife has an LX 470 (01). Did you trade yours in? How does the GL compare to the LX in terms of ride, etc.
The GL has a much more rsponsive road feel to me over the LX. But I think all Lexi are a bit souless!!
