For a Bernie interview that was pretty boring. He is usually funnier.

The interview is on "Russia Today" for God's sake!

"The perfect manipulator and the perfect mediator." The Russians do love their strong men.

I read quotes from it before and it didn't surprise me. Ecclestone is a bad person that says whatever he wants at any given moment to attempt to accomplish his goals. He has no integrity even if he has achieved good results at times.

What has always taken me by surprise is how many people here advocate the "dictator is good for F1" mentality. If that is true, that is only the case because he made it that way, not because it is the right way.

All the chaos and politics, and uneven distribution in F1 is by his design or supported by him in reality. It makes him an integral part of the show or the whole thing falls apart. He's definitely an evil genius IMO.

So you're going to judge all of F1 based on comments from a single man who once said: "‘You know, I’ve got one of these wonderful ideas that women should all be dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances", and who described a certain Austrian who apparently cannot be mentioned on this site in the F1 section in any way, shape or form unless you want an official warning, as being a man ".....able to get things done"?

I wouldn't pay too much heed to anything Bernie says when he makes public statements such as these as he has a tendency to be controversial purely for the sake of it.

He also has a tendency to be quite fickle about his statements.

Right now, with the threat of Red bull pulling out he's making statements along the lines of:

"Red Bull are very important to F1 and have done a lot for our sport. It would be a tragedy if we lost them and so we must do all we can to help them stay in F1".

If Red Bull do leave F1 though, he'll be the first to say:

"Losing Red Bull isn't really that much of a lose to F1. They're just another one of many teams that come along, have a brief dalliance with our sport and then leave again. We've seen it before and we'll see it again. They come along claiming to be serious about being in F1 and then as soon as it doesn't suit them any more, they leave. What they all seem to fail to realise is that they are not that important really, and that one way or another, F1 will carry on, long after they're just a distant memory!"

    As for:

So what exactly did F1 get from you?

Meh, Bernie has a strange sense of humour when talking about politics, we already knew it. He also knows that he´s speaking to Russia Today and likes to please who is paying for the show.

I think that the big teams are responsible for this. They had the chance of getting together and doing things in a different way, but in the end they decided to get Bernie´s money. You gotta pay the piper.

Bernie needs to dictate for f1 to succeed.

To a certain level, dictating is better than a democracy. Just depends who is in charge.

I am afraid I had to report this thread as innappropriate on a F1 forum.

The political views of participants are of no interest on a F1 forum.

Please remember this isn't P&R. I've deleted and edited a few posts in order to allow the thread to remain to discuss the non-P&R aspects of the interview.

Discussion on how F1 is run are perfectly fine, but you'll have to save any commentary about West vs Russia, Vladimir Putin, or other national dictators for the P&R section.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Bernie is a mad genius ... love'm or hate'm - you have to admire that he can get up infront of people and say the crap he says.

I think people need to rememeber F- 1 is a busienss and not a soverign government. Most companys are a form of dictatorship, and that usually works pretty well.

the busienss that become too top heavy with big boards etc. that call the shots and dont have a clear leader suffer in the long run. IBM, GM, and the ilk all were great but now are mediocher to say the least.

the interview was Bernie as I've rarely seen him; pandering to the Russians... he is not a person who panders to many.

un fortunately he could care less if he is liked or not - he has a couple of billion reasons for that.

To the OP, I would suggest you don't understand the show.

F1 is a travelling circus, catching money in a net behind it, like shrimp!!

Why trying to extend the F1 footprint has to be seen as "pandering"?

Ecclestone took F1 to countries never visited before and made a success of it, why that has to be seen as pandering?

He has to sell his show everywhere, recruit new fans, visit new countries, capture new audiences, cajole the media, etc...

If he doesn't, F1 may be at risk of shrinking one day.

    Race tickets.... no more

Contribute to their TV ratings... no more

    F1 memorabilia...... no more

    Patronize F1 sponsors..... no more

I realize Bernie is a manipulative PIA, but that RT interview just hit me the wrong way. The fact that the cars sound like vacuum cleaners and the racing is a bit manipulated, makes the decision easier. Now, if they bring back real engines and real racing, I might want to sneak a peek! :)

My point was that he was unusually agreeable with the Russian reporter perhaps he was flirting but he was not his usual snarky self
