Mr. E has been quite prolific with his idiotic comments over the years. For the sake of conciseness, I thought we might want to have them listed (with commentary!) in one place. Think of this as one-stop shopping for the Evil Dwarf's Greatest Hits! My personal favorite resulted from an attempted robbery/carjacking of Jenson Button. This took place during a GP weekend in Brazil or Argentina, and Button escaped only because he was in a bullet-proof limo. Bernie's comment? "It was just a man trying to sell someone a hat"!
    Let the games begin!

Here is a few from one article this week - After the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) called for change within the F1 governance, Formula 1 Group owner Bernie Eccelstone has said that drivers should not be allowed to talk.

The 85-year-old said that the racers only care about how much money they can earn form the sport and are not interested in helping the development of it.

“What sort of interest do they have, the drivers, other than taking money out of the sport?” Ecclestone asked ESPN.

“I’ve never seen one of them put one dollar in, you go to dinner with them and they don’t even pay the bill. They shouldn’t even be allowed to talk. They should get in the car and drive it.”

 I'm not sure Rob has enough server space to host all the stupid things Bernie Ecclestone has said over the years. :D

Also, PlanetF1 need to learn how to spell "Ecclestone" correctly.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I remain of the impression that 95% of the things that bernie says/does is purely to see how others react to it. He remains a very clever man.

Agreed. He was able to bring F1 from a local western Europe event to a WW event.

Along the way, made a few bucks for himself.

I'd like to be that stupid too !!

He is a very, very clever man.

I have lived not far from where Bernie started as a second-hand car dealer, and there are plenty of stories about him.

That man started from nothing, and became the pope of motor racing within a few decades. You cannot be stupid to achieve that.

A bit of a rogue maybe, but a very clever one. Mind you, make sure to count your fingers after if you happen to shake his hand!!

Oh, only now you say that?

I've just put a deposit on a 308 he was selling, with "less than 1,000 original kilometers, all service records, 100% original, perfect paint rosso corsa, shinny tan leather, drives like a charm..."

    Too late I guess....

So that woman (Tamara) and Bernie are related? Really? They look about as similar as a Lamborghini and a John Deere tractor.

You are joking aren't you :)

I'm not sure I agree with you there... the only real difference is the paint scheme...

Aedo, I thought it would take a LOT longer for someone to grasp the tractor and Lamborghini reference. You Aussies are quick witted!

Here is a Bernie Story / comment.... but not a dumb one as it turns out.

In 1976, Bernie turns up at the British GP, at a Meeting of what was to become FOCA... and says:

"I have bought the F-1 TV rights for $1Million Dollars from the FIA / CSI... I will sell you each an even share for $100K"

Nobody took the bait. they all thought "for $100K we can do x amount of testing, hire designers etc... " ( lord Hesketh exact quote )... the rest is history. Bernie kept the rights and made Billions.
