Serious question. If you have a child or friend's child that's going out in the world, what ONE piece of advice would you give them? I'd say: Stay out of debt. House is OK, and car EARLY ON, otherwise, no debt that's not paid off EVERY MONTH! It's the Golden Handcuffs otherwise.
Don't have kids. Nothing will suck a person under faster than uncontrolled breeding. If you're a guy, that means be careful, because there are women out there who will absolutely "oops" you on purpose.
Assuming that this 17-year old knows how to read a book, instead of a computer, buy him or her a copy of Thomas Friedman's "The World is Flat" book. The future really will be a world without borders. Or, at least I sure hope so because the alternative will be war. Dale

As someone who's recently been there (only 4 years ago)......don't be afraid to work hard. But, in your hard work, don't knock other people down. Those relationships are what will keep you going. Oh, and enjoy what you do. Regardless of whether you're at the top or the bottom of the totem pole. Rest assured that will change, but enjoy it while you're there.
