Canadian here and big airplane buff. I want to attend one of the bigger airshow events down south. I think I have it narrowed down to 2 events. Oshkosh, or FleetWeek in San Francisco.

Any other suggestions I may have over looked? Want to combine the show with also doing other family stuff..suggestions are much appreciated.

Can’t say anything about Fleetweek, but Oshkosh is a week long overload of aviation of all kinds, from paramotor to experimental to military iron. Well worth attending.

IMO, Oshkosh is the Mecca of airplanes. EVERYTHING is there.

Oshkosh is definitely tops, while its "understudy", Sun & Fun down in Lakeland, FL is pretty nifty as well.

Some of the bigger Air Force Base open houses are usually very good; I've been to Andrews AFB in Maryland and Edwards AFB in California and can recommend them; bases in Dayton and Las Vegas have big shows too but I haven't been to them. If you're looking for a particular jet team or other demo team (F-22, for instance), they all have websites that list their schedules.

WW2 was a really good one for me. Lots of big stuff and boom and bang things. Airplanes of all sizes and types whizzing around all the time. They haven't had another one since so it may have been too boring after a while or too expensive.

A big, four-year long airshow, huh, Bob? (And even longer for the Europeans.):D

Obviously Oshkosh is the big kahuna. Another event you might consider, though, are the Reno Air Races. In addition to the racing, they have a pretty awesome air show-- at least they used to, I haven't been back for a few years.

Here's one I'm going to. No jet team this year but the F-22 will be a highlight. Plus, I've never seen a Grumman Mohawk in the air before. (Two years ago, I saw the V-22 Osprey perform at this show, another first for me.)
