I had a 1-year subscription with Kapersky, which just expired. What is the best program nowadays, or are they basically all the same?

I use AVG Free. Is that any good? I always assumed that they were all the same.

They are all fairly similar and keep their virus definitions up to date. Kaspersky seems to be a bit more aggressive in scanning, but takes up more processing power. On my personal computers I use Avast.

I used to have AVG and then went to Avast after AVG became ****. Avast wasn't much better. Now with Microsoft Security Essentials and couldn't be happier. Extremely convenient to use, simple messages. Obviously developed for Microsoft and it works a charm.

With AV software the most essential bit is to keep it up to date. Mine updates as soon as a new one comes out and haven't had a virus in years. The last one I had was with AVG and Avast.
