I am buying my lady an iPad and I didn't know if I should get it from Best Buy or should I go to Apple and buy it directly? Doesn't Best Buy have a better warranty plan? They usually take it back and don't ask questions, Apple is different aren't they? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

I have had no issues with Best Buy, purchased lots of MAC's, iPads, etc, plus if you use their credit card, 12 months free money.

Go to the apple website, look for "educational pricing", click link, enter school you or your kids attend(ed), buy there, get $100 app store credit and reduced apple care pricing.

    Free shipping.

    I'm not a 100%, but I don't believe it works like that.

You must be currently enrolled and you must provide proof. At least that's how it is when purchasing discounted software from Adobe or Microsoft.

I feel that's like cheating the system just to get $100 off if you aren't currently enrolled or previously attended a college.

Didn't mean to imply one should cheat, but re-reading my post it may appear that way.

As I have kids in college, and I also take online courses from time to time, it applies to me. You do not have to provide any documentation for apple.. As to adobe, you only have to provide your .edu email address. As to Microsoft, nothing is needed when buying software off the shelf, dunno about downloading it.

Another suggestion is, if you own a business and buy apple products, register as a business at the Apple store, the discounts aren't great, but they are discounts. The more you buy, the larger the discount, but no one can tell you what they are, which is weird, but apple is a weird company.

Something may have changed recently. I just purchased Adobe Creative whatnot and during the online registration process had to supply a scanned copy of daughter's current school ID card.

That is what I thought I bought the same product, but there is also an option that says "or provide you edu email address", but it wasn't obvious at first.

I'd buy from the Apple Store, if have any questions at least you have better chance of having them answered there rather than Best Buy.

Thanks again for the replies, I went ahead and bought online from Apple. Came in and will be giving it to her for our anniversary Saturday. She will be so freaking happy.

Good call, probably better service over the long run since Best Buy is going bankrupt (last I heard)
