Many thanks to Carbon for lending me his VHS copy of "THE GUMBALL RALLY". i have a few of what i consider "great car movies", and today i went nuts and ordered a bunch from amazon.com.

i searched the archives in Off Topic and this forum but i did not find what i was looking for. i swear there was a "car movie" thread already.

    what i have :

"GRAND PRIX" , "SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT " ( 1 AND 2 ) , "LEMANS" , "CANNONBALLRUN" (1 AND 2) , "GONE IN 60 SECONDS DEADLINE AUTO THEFT " (HALICKY SPECIAL EDITION) , "GONE IN 60 SECONDS" ( REMAKE), "THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS" ( relax, i like the first one, i am not "THAT" old ) . a bunch of the original "HERBIE" movies , on DVD . :)

    what i ordered :
" THE GUMBALL RALLY" ( DVD! ) , "GUMBALL 3000" "CANNONBALLRUN EUROPE" ( never heard of this one, hope it doesnt suck) , "IT TAKES TWO" ( cheesy cool Lambo movie), "CANNONBALL" (with David Carradine ) "THE WRAITH" and "EAT MY DUST"

today i saw "EAT MY DUST" (dvd) at a small local movie rental place i go to now and then. i rented it and really enjoyed the movie for what it was and the way it was shot. i ordered it on dvd to have a copy.

i need to add "BULLIT" and "TWO LANE BLACK TOP"

anybody know what the name of the movie is that has Don Johnson and the yellow 55 chevy????? i want that one too. :)

any thoughts, comments or additions? :)

    New to old...

Ronin = great flick and chases.

If you can find the original (1974) Gone in 60 Seconds, you won't be disappointed.

If you wanna make out, American Graffiti.

Vanishing Point = Denver to S.F. in 15 hours. Doubtful you can find this on DVD, though - VHS is available, however.

Thunder Road starring Robert Mitchum... as a bootlegger. It's just over a half century old.

  4. "To Live And Die In LA". It had a great chase in it, and a 308. Haven't seen it for years.

Hollywood Knights is decent, kind of an American Graffitti rip off.

No Mans Land with Charlie Sheen , if you like Porsches.

Bad Boys (1st one) , nice chase at the end with a Porsche Turbo VS Cobra .

The Dead Pool (Clint Eastwood). The killer used R/C Corvettes to kill people.

I compiled a list awhile back, haven't updated it.

I think you mean "the Wraith", I actually saw that one on DVD at Fred Meyer's the other day. You mean the one where he died and came back as some kind of spirit that turned into the car that looked like an IMSA prototype right?

People mentioned Bad Boys but no one mentioned Bad Boys 2. Had a great scene with a 550/575/possibly both depending on who you talk to.

If you can get a hold of BMW Films The Hire DVD, you'll enjoy. You can download them off the website, but its so much better to watch on a big screen.

Matrix Reloaded: The highway scene was great.

The Italian job had an enjoyable chase scene with the mini coopers.

That's all I got for now.

I found the original with Barry Newman (1971) and the later remake with Viggo Mortensen and Jason Priestly (1997) at Amazon.com, Both on CD, each less than 12.00. for new, used ones for less.

Ever since I saw the original I always wanted to get that cool "pistol grip" shifter for one of my cars.

The Rock - 355 and H1.....355 getting smashed in the end was unreal

There was a DVD I saw a while back. It's titled 'Joshua Tree', stars Dolph Lungren and definitely B-grade but the car's the star. It was a red F40 that belonged to the druglord that he stole, after escaping from a prison truck. The druglord then went into chase mode in a black Countach for a final face-off. Stupid plot and acting but the car chase around some canyons were worth seeing.
Ronin,GI60S and Transporter the best modern ones. Classics, definitely Bullit and the French Connection and Ryan O'Neal's Driver.

The F40 used in that movie was a replica if I remember correctly, was it not?

The canyon-carving sequence, the chase between the Countach and it, was a real F40 I believe...can't be a replica, the single-lock nuts, Speedline rims and minor details..
The 'off-road' sojourn and some hedge/cactus bashing, was a replica..the rooflines, front spoiler and light units just look awkward. FWIW, I was zooming on the details of the F40 ever so often that I don't really remember what's the story's all about!
