I'm going to fly into Chicago Midway for one, maybe two days in a couple of weeks, I will probably take a cab/shuttle/L/whatever to downtown/Mag Mile/Navy Pier, spend the day, maybe fly home that night, or the next night.

Reason being: I have a flight voucher I have to burn before it expires on July 31, so what the heck, I may as well walk around Navy Pier or something.... and flights on Southwest are cheap, I have $200 to burn.

Is the Days Inn down there worth a darn ?
I may stay a night, maybe not, I don't know.

Any Hotel ideas would be great...

PS - I'm in Omaha, so it's only a one hour flight..

Never stayed there but looks to be a good location. Check the reviews on the Internet. It would appear that some rooms may not be A-okay, while others seem fine.

There are a bunch of cheap hotels on LaSalle street, among them a Best Western. Never stayed there, but looks ok. There are also a couple of W in the downtown area, those are nice.

    Welcome to Ganton, err Chicago!

If you're talking about the Days Inn on Diversey, it's located on the north edge of Lincoln Park within walking distance to the lake and so forth. It's about 2 miles from downtown--5 minutes by cab. Funny enough, it's the hotel where nearly every sub-superstar band stays since it's relatively close to a few north side theaters. You'd probably prefer to be closer to downtown so I'd keep looking around. If you search around the Michigan Ave. area a bit, there are a few hotels just off the strip that are decent and not quite as expensive. The toughest part may be availability.

Staying in a cardboard box on Lower Wacker will save you big bucks!

You'll even get room service for free. Volunteers give away food left over from restaurants.

Ya can't beat it, and the cost is zip. :D

I remember walking from Navy Pier to the Virgin Record -er- CD store a couple of years ago, and there was a Days Inn somewhere along the way, but according to their website, not anymore. No doubt someone bought it out and renamed it...
Anyway, we took the boat from the Shedd Aq to the Pier, wandered around, wandered to the CD store, then walked north to the Mill (?)/Cheesecake Factory, etc.
That's probably what we will do again.... just don't know where we will stay.

I looked around on Hotels.com, most everything is around $250 a night, but I know not every Motel is listed on there, that's why I was asking.

    Thanks folks..

PS - I know nothing is cheap in that area, I wasn't expecting to find a 3-star for $80 a night, I was kinda looking for something around $175, but if I gotta go to $250, I will - it's only money..

    hello,

my wife and i just got back from chicago. we went to see the band "the police" last night @ wrigley field. we stayed in a neat little hotel called "majestic hotel" its literally off lake shore drive and addison street. charming little mom and pop hotel. clean and quier. $189 per night including continental breakfast. walking distance to wrigley field and all the bars & resturaunts in wrigleyville. a $8.00 cab ride to lincoln park/gold coast.

the neat thing about this hotel is it's tucked in with all the townhouses and apartments so it doesnt even resemble a hotel. we'd stay there again.

WARNING; if you drive a SUV sized automobile, the parking garage is about six blocks away from the hotel. if your car is under 6 ft tall, you can park in their garage around the corner. you will be asked this when you check in.

Thank you for the tip, Joseph, I will check it out.

We don't plan on driving or renting a car, the entire plan is to be within walking distance of 'the usual krap' so we don't have to bother with checking out a car, in a car, parking, traffic, the whole kaboodle.....

Every place I go is a bit of a groundhog day.
I just like to go and wander around, and not stay in any one attraction too long. 'Disney' type places I can do without.....

The Day's Inn you're thinking of was sold and is now the W. If you really don't care about price, there is a HoJo's just west of BoMich on LaSalle. Not the nicest, but it's probably inexpensive.

FYI the Majestic Hotel Joseph mention is one of three places owned by the same company, all look good.
But alas, plans changed, and it looks like we are not heading east, but south instead.
I do appreciate the input, and have bookmarked a few places for next time.

    Thanks guys.
