I've been thinking about adding a classic Ferrari to my scud and I'm trying to decide which model to go with. I suppose the only criterion I have is I would like to limit my purchase price to no more than $150,000.

Two options I've been considering are two hero cars from my youth: the 308 and the Testarossa. Very different cars I know. On the one hand, I lean toward lightweight, nimble sports cars, so the 308 seems like a good choice. On the other hand, I already have two sports cars that I can take to the track (a "momentum" car and a high-speed car) and it would be nice to have a GT car better suited for weekend trips with the wife. Also, I like the idea of owning a "proper" 12-cylinder Ferrari.

What do you think? I know, I should buy whatever I want, go with my heart, etc., but I'd like to here the views of other 360/430/scud owners. Happy to hear opinions on cars other than the 308 and TR too. Thanks!

I am not sure I would categorize a 308/328 as nimble - I have a 328, and would not consider it a track car - sure is pretty though. On a $150k budget you don't have many options in terms of classic Ferrari. If you have a Scud I would go with a Testarossa, perhaps because I am curious about it myself :) I have no clue how it drives... If you want 12 cyl, the 612 is a bargain at the moment, but not a classic, although it has classic lines :)

Add a 12 cylinder GT to the stable. I've no idea what they cost over there though.....

A slight correction: While I said "classic" Ferraris, I didn't intend to limit the field to cars that are any particular age. I'm just thinking Ferraris that are not modern-era cars as these are the ones that fit my price constraint. I'd consider cars as "new" as a 360, but that particular car is a little too similar to the 430 for me to consider. I'd love to get a CS, but that can't be had for $150,000.

I like your two choices and don't see how you can go wrong with either the TR or the 308. I sat in a 308 once and loved how it fit like a glove but then having a dozen cylinders behind you would be pretty special too.

I would probably get a 355 spider or a TR, even with the high maintenance issues.

I would suggest a 550 while you can get them for that price.. In either case You need to pick a 12 cylinder if you want to experience something different and the 550 and Tr are both accord able 12 cylinder cars with manual transmissions...
I like the 550 but can't go wrong ether way

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Keep them coming!

The posts so far bring to mind a further criterion of mine I failed to mention: gated manual!

Larry- Yup, something V12 and front engine and the 550 is all that is left that is relatively affordable. Maybe not for long, though, 575M 3 pedals are already way past the $150K mark.

Not exactly a classic, well not yet at least, but what about a 599 GTB?

If you see a good one for under $150k let me know. ;) Also not a gated manual.

Wow, shocked that 599s are so "cheap." If they came with manual transmissions they'd definitely be a contender!

Try see if you can get behind the wheel of some of the cars you are considering, you may quickly realize that some of them look and sound better than the driving experience they offer... Given your priorities that may help you decide what you want to pursue.

599 can be found with a 6-speed. Just going to need to up the budget. By a lot.

Wish the mods hadn't moved this thread. The point was to see what other 430 Scuderia owners would consider as a good addition to the scud. This is why I posted it in the 430 section.

Ha, I guess we'll see. FWIW, I welcome everyone's opinion but I particularly value those of other scud owners as they are in a similar position as me.

Not a scud owner but don't regret buying a TR to keep company with my 360

Beautiful! Something really cool about a flat 12. Not likely to see this in a new car any day soon.

I am going to vote for a 365 GTB Daytona from an owner who does not realize the value of the car.

I had both a 78 308GTS and an 87 328 GTS, both were great cars, and depends on what you are looking for. The early carb 308s were very "analog" to me and great fun...but also a bit slow, but the sounds and feel of the car was awesome.

No personal experience with TRs but both are on the way up....
