For a number of reasons I'm interested in building a Ferrari track car. Now before anyone goes crazy, I'm not talking about destroying anything irreplacable or historically significant. Hurricane/flood damaged cars stipped of interior and body electrics would make great track toys. Are there big clearing houses that are handling the victims of Katrina and Rita?

Check with Manheim Auto Auctions, some insurance companies have a clearing house days with them.

Most insurance cars are listed with Destruction or Salvage title, which means insurance took a total loss. You can not get a title for them. Not that it matters for a track only car, but keep in mind resale value will be fairly low. Usually the only way to get the hurricane cars are from Insurance auctions. Even if you get a " rebuildable title" car it doesnt mean your going to get a title, most insurance companys will >>NOT<< give you the estimate of damages which most states require for a rebuild title. Do research with your local DMV before jumping into it.

Want another good reason for owning a track car with a title that can be filed? Hard to prove it was yours if it was stolen. All the salvage titles I have seen CA, FL do not show who ownes it, it only lists vin, make, model, and says SALVAGE on it.
