Gnocchi is tough to make, and the best I've ever had was in the "old town" Zurich Switzerland at a little place that looked like a beer hall in 1992 (I don't remember the name). Rivaling that was a place in Pacifica, CA which is now gone. I've found others that are good / very good, but would love to hear of other experiences around the country and planet.

We have a nice little family restaurant here in the Marina (Alejo's) that makes a damn good gnocchi.

Another is Al Gelato on Robertson.

My favorite gnocchi are the "Malfatti" served at Le Logge in Siena - melt in your mouth!

Gnocchi with meatballs is my favorite meal. I order it whenever it is available! It's an art to make them right - not too soft and gooey, not raw and doughy.

In Vegas, the best I've found is at Terra Rossa at Red Rock Casino. In LA, Alejo's Dave mentioned is good, but their meatballs don't have the best mix of meat (I like the ones with whiter meats mixed in, then again, the large platter is only like $12); I just had that Friday night in fact. My nostalgic childhood favorite is at the Rex Hotel and Restaurant in my hometown on the Niagara peninsula, Canada, one of those little 'Italian family owned since 1913' places.

Next time you're out here we'll go to Al Gelato. We could have gone there last time but Roscoe's was a callin'! :D:D:D

My sister and I are big Gnocchi fans. She kept telling me about this little hole in the wall place she always used to go to in Berkley, CA. I could care less for the rest of that city, but it is truly the best I have ever had.

I have never had gnocchi. I have had Polish kopytka many times though, which is apparently kind of similar and I love it.
I don't recall seeing gnocchi on any menu's at local Italian places...even the most authentic ones. Weird...

There's a little place near the Shrine of San Gabriele, in Abruzzi. Best I've had since my mother passed away.

    OK , Here's the question.....Potato or Ricotta?

+1 Al Gelato is the best. Best meatball in the world. Best bread, best sauce. The sauce is sweet with a lot of basil. But don't tell anyone. The place is a well kept secret. PM me next time you're in LA.

The Jockey Club (in the Fairfax Hotel formerly Ritz-Carlton) in DC makes a pretty damn good parmesan gnocchi.

My wife is not shown in the photo.......but for what it is worth, the blonde in red is an Australian ballet dancer last known to be studying in London. ;)
