Best GPS?

There are a number of good websites, search under "gps review". I'm currently in the market, and most sources suggest that Garmin is the best (others, notably Magellan, Tom Tom, and LG are good, and perhaps better at some things--but Garmin seems to be best overall). The knock (knocks?) against Garmin includes high purchase cost, and some limitation in the feature set. The new Garmin 7xx series has some bad press for long satellite acquisition times.

 

When I was out of town I rented a Garmin from Avis for $10 and it was just great. I have a factory GPS in 3 cars and I liked the Garmin better. I don't know the model but it was not a flat screen. It worked great.

 

I have a garmin nuvi 270, It works great in North America and Europe. It really makes my life easy trying to find residental address in Europe.

 

I have a TomTom 720 and I am very hapy with it. It has text to speech and bluetooth also.
I suggest the 4.3 inch screen also over the 3-3.5, it makes fro a nicer user experience

 

What about Magellan, are they any good?

 

I just purchased the Garmin nuvi 660 for Christmas. The voice prompts are loud, clear and timely. The ease of use is just fantastic and the visibility, and i think the quality of the display are now the gold standard. All in all, it has performed great overall. Here is some specs and reviews
