I am replacing the two SS O rings on each side of my 355's bypass valve. A Ferrari tech suggested a thin film of sealer be applied around the rings to help ensure they don't leak. I'm guessing some sort of high temperature silicone would be appropriate. What have you guys used? What temperature limit do you think this stuff needs to be?

I've never added any sealant around those rings.

    A Ferrari mechanic suggested that?

I really don't think so but if true you now know one to not take your car to.

Why? What is wrong with a small amount of a high quality sealer. I'm not arguing, just asking to understand the downside.

Becuase you shouldn't need to use a band aid to make it seal.

It should seal without sealant if it doesn't you have other problems, Douching it with some silicone won't fix it.

I mean what does he use to weld parts with?? JB weld?

If exhaust components are not sealing or seating flush on their interfaces, then they need to be loosened and realigned. If they still do not seal up, then the suspect part(s) need to be corrected on a bench.
Many exhaust parts including factory are not very straight or square. Maybe they were ok when new .... but after many heat cycles and deformation prone tubing .... this leak does not surprise ...
