I agree with that. The ones out west are great. I like the one he built for himself in AZ. Thats imprssive.
I have been inside of one of the usonia houses. They are nice inside. Not huge, but nice. It has big open spaces inside though. What i mean is that there will be stairs that go downstairs halfway across a room, pas those stairs there will be a railing with a drop to the next floor down .

Yes, I like Wright's use of space. Very clean. And he had a nice eye for accent pieces that he would design to complement the house, such as lamps, window frames, etc. Microsoft put out a CD at one time with his autobiography, a lot of his houses, etc. There was also a simple architectural program that would allow you to design a floorplan, which would then be automatically extruded to 3-D. You could place "Wright-style" doors and windows on the walls for a very authentic look. Quite a useful CD--unfortunately I don't have it anymore.

Anyone been to his masterpeice, Falling Water in Bear Run, (Western) Pennsylvania? I especially like the staircase going into the water below the house. It's supported by very thin steel rods and the last rung has two glass panes that can be lit from underneath. Simply beautiful.

Wasn't it FLW who asked "What does a brick want to be?"

We just bought this. It has a while to go until it is minimalist. However, the simple structure of an original log home lends itself for a great modern interior. We are busy for weeks now to delete any and all added suburban touches (fake shutters etc.) of the last 37 years.

    Hi Rijk,

Sounds like the makings of an interesting project! You'll have to show some pics after the completion.

From what I can see, your taste is very inter-war, German, eh? Excellent style!

Suprised however, that you left out the Villa Savoye. I consider it to be the absolute pinnacle of design. Corbu was a master -- on the level of Enzo, if I dare say.

I agree. My wife bought me a Corbu chaise as a wedding present.

Only cost me an Eames chair and ottoman...

This is the cabin of Le Corbusier. Maybe there is hope for us.

    Thanks, Jack,

Although I am a fan of Corbu (especially his furniture), I'm more of a Mies kind of guy I suppose. Although I absolutely love Villa Savoye.
Thanks, Rijk for the pic of Corbu's cabin.....
