I've read a ton of threads on this, but I'd still like some advice. I've got the original '86 single stage paint in really good condition, but with a number of fine scratches and towel marks - nothing you can feel with a fingernail but fine scratches you can definitely see. Last Fall I clayed then polished the car with Griot's #3 polish and their random orbital (not the Porter Cable which I probably should have bought.) Although I definitely was removing some paint, I didn't get deep enough to make the scratches disappear. If it were your car, would you: 1) Go the Griot's route - polish with a #2, then a #1 if necessary, and work back up to a #3 or #4 and finish with Best of Show Wax 2) Try Zaino sealant and see if it hides the fine scratches 3) Try Deep Finish sealant and see if it hides them as well. 4) Do a combo of these - or something entirely different. I'd like to try the Griot's option to get rid of the scratches before applying any wax or sealer, but seeing that red paint on the polish removal cloth just makes me nervous.

I really like the Deep Finish products. I did a comparison with some products from www.dccarcare.com (including Deep) and I have come away impressed. I like the idea of you trying a little bit of everything (that is what I did after all) as that way you will have a complete arsenal of detail products to try and test. How can you go wrong that way.

I too, sold on Deep Finish product, got a free sample from the sken (Scott Kennedy) and loved the result.

Here's a shot after using the Deep Finish.

I've got an 86' as well and went the same route as you. The paint is in great condition but I could see some really fine swirl marks and towel scratches. I used the Griot's #3 polish and the Best of Show Wax with their random orbital. Same results as you. I can still see some of the fine scratches, but I really have to look hard under specific lighting. I would recommend enjoying your car for a couple of months and then when it is ready for a good waxing, do the #3 polish again with a little more pressure. I think with patience you'll get the results you want without removing too much paint. This way every time you do it you'll remove a little paint until the scratches are gone - without risking the chance of over doing it. Covering it up with wax is like an ugly girl with tons of makeup. Once it washes off, ughhh!

Mike and Michael - thanks for the pic and the web site - I've ordered the Deep Finish Swax and Detail spray from DC. What a nice guy that runs that out of his house. Max - love the quote! You're right, I'm going to just keep at the polishing a little at a time until they're down to where yours sound like they are (mine are pretty noticeable in any light) or maybe even a little further. Then I'll apply the Swax and hopefully be posting a pic like Mike's sometime soon. Thanks!

I have used Zaino Bros. on my 84 euro 308 GTS. I did the entire treatment; claying, filling and polishing. Best I have ever seen. The only unusual thing about using Zaino is that on my car the right lower door and part of the fenders are two stage and the balance the original paint. Zaino has a polish for single stage paints and another for two stage paints. The way to tell what part is what is that you will get some color on the rag with the one stage paint and no color on the clear coat. I have not seen the Deep Finish but I just tried Best of Show on another car (MB) and got similar results as Birddog in post # 1. Zaino filled the tiny scratches and after polishing a towel resting on any kind of a slightly inclined surfacr would immediately slide off. Zaino is a lot of work but to me, worth it for the Ferrari.

I've used the Griot's hand polish and the Best in Show Wax and while I like the polish I found it very difficult to remove the wax and the results were not as good as the PS21 product I've used. I like the Mequir's machine glaze and the PS21 wax after that myself. The Deep products are very nice as well.

3M makes car care products that are top notch. They are usually not available in retail stores, I got mine from an auto paint supply store (just happened to see them in the rack and thought I'd try them). They have a polish, glaze, and wax 3 step system like Griot's et. al.

I prefer the 3M over Griots and Mequires, but never tried the Deep Impact. The Porter Cable buffer is great, buy some SONOS pads.
