I entered my '66 Jaguar E-Type FHC into a local car show over the weekend. There were approximately 100 - 110 cars, many really nice ones. Most of the cars were of the muscle car variety, but there was a Countach and an Austin-Healey.

Needless to say, I was surprised to win "Best in Show" - my car, while nice, is far from Concours quality, but I guess E-Type FHCs aren't commonplace, so it drew a nice crowd and that must have factored into the vote.

I also won tickets to see the Trenton Thunder (NY Yankees AA team), so all in all, a good weekend!

Thanks! I love the car - I'll not likely part with it anytime soon, as much as I want a 328. I was offered $50K for the car while at the show - don't know how serious the man was, but I'm not selling :)

    $50k!?! Wow!

I know what it means to be attached to a car though. I have cars that are "worth" only a couple of thousand bucks that I wouldn't sell for a million.

    Well......m a y b e......a million, but you get the idea.

Beautiful car you have there, what color is the interior?

Yea, I don't know how serious he was - seemed a little bit of a "show man", but no worries. The car might be worth $40K - lots of new bits, it's just a little scruffy.

Interior is black - although the original color combination was Opalescent Silver-Blue with a blue interior. I have the heritage certificate, and I know the car was originally sold in Ohio, which is where I purchased it.

It's really low miles - about 35,000 in total. Terry Lippincott - who worked on the car for me - estimated it had been sitting for probably 25 years, maybe more. Internal parts were barely worn and clean, but external bits were rotted and / or rusted.

Best thing about it is I drive it all the time. Doesn't matter where or when, I drive it as it was meant to be. I even drove it nearly 150 miles from his shop to my house when I picked it up. Don't know if I'd do that again, but the car has been fantastic for the nearly 7 years I've owned it.

Why surprised? That car is a stone-cold knock-out.

    Thanks!

At 10 feet, it looks great, no doubt. But when you get up to it, you can see the flaws. It's DEFINITELY a driver - there are 2 dings and some small paint bubbles. Compared to some of the other cars at this show, my car didn't compare in quality - in particular a '66 AH Mk3000 and a super-clean '65 GTO.

Of course, maybe that's not the criteria for judging, and I do agree that the lines of the E-Type rank as some of the best in automotive history.

It's not the first award I've won with the car, so maybe I shouldn't be so surprised :)

    Good going... congratulations!
My car's the same - a sweet 10-footer ....even so, the cars outclasses most everything around it.
