My wife and I are looking to take a vacation this summer and can't decide where we would like to go. We would like to go somewhere in the Carribean, but so many islands, not sure which is the best. We have been to Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, and Hawaii and loved those, but we are looking for something new. We were thinking about a cruise that leaves NYC and goes to PR, Turks and Caicos, St. Thomas, and back to NYC. Has anyone been to Turks? Any pictures?

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!

    Mike

My friend has been all over the world and to different islands and such. Her favorites in the Caribbean are actually Grenada and Barbados.
Her favorite island vacation ever was in Corsica, France, though. I have no experience with these places though, sorry. You might want to check them out online for fun though. Gorgeous places.

I was also going to recommend Barbados. My dad has been all over the world and for an island vacation it is his favorite.

I read an article in my local paper this morning that plane tickets have gotten extremely cheap and a trip to hawaii is almost $400 now as opposed to $900 last year, is this true? If so I need to get out from behind my computer and take a little vacation.

The best places in the Caribbean, that places that aren't over run by tourists require a boat or amphibious plane to reach. If you don't care about loud annoying tourists go to st barts. Cleaner than most other places, more secluded and has pretty nice hotels and restaurants but it does tend to be more expensive that tourist s... holes like the atlantis.

I have been to Turks and it is a remote island without a lot of tourists on it. I was there diving and at nite the place was dead. The water is the clearest I have ever seen.

    Jumby Bay: http://www.jumbybayresort.com/

My parents used to be members of this island. A wine maker from Europe named Banfi bought the island some time ago and decided to sell parts of it in the form of memberships ( 400 total ). To build a home you needed to be a member. I do not recall the membership amount but the background check was extensive. They wanted a diversified membership not 400 people from Beverly Hills. Approximately 10 years ago the members were fed up with Banfi and his nonsense rules. The members decided to go through the court system to dissolve the membership and in the end they all received their membership money back.

Robin Leach and a few other celebs had homes there and I recall one story my father told me when he and my mother were there for a 1 week vacation. David Copperfield and Claudia Schiffer were there on vacation. They were having a larger dinner party and David/Claudia were late. When they finally arrived Copperfield stated he was sorry but they had locked themselves out of their room. My father, being the smart a** like me, said "you can make a 747 disappear and you can't open a locked door". "I am never going to one of your shows again."

I was able to meet Robin Leach when he visited my parents in their home town. Great guy and not anything like you see on TV.

Yes I have been on a similar cruise. We left from Miami. Went to St Thomas (rode the ferry to St John as that is where we were married), Old San Juan, and Grand Turk. The main photo on my website www.caribbeanphoto.net is from Grand Turk, as are some others. It was really a great place to snorkel. We don't like to "party" and drink and all that, we prefer to do the nature thing and explore and we had a great time on that cruise.
