Agreed! The 1967-68 cars--before wings--were the epitome of style. Too bad that--as Chris Amon said--the engine didn't perform as good as it looked or sounded! IMO, the only other car that could match it in looks was its contemporary, the Eagle-Weslake. Other really good-looking Ferraris in my opinion are the 1970 312B, the 1982 126C2, and the 1989-90 640 and 641. Unfortunately, due to other requirements, there is no such thing as a beautiful F1 car anymore......
640 was the 1989 car (without periscope scoop) that won first time out and was a development of the 639 prototype that only ran in tests. While the 640 was a purer shape, the 1990 cars, 641 and 641/2 (but especially the 641/2) were really good looking. These were credited to Argentinian designer Scalabroni. Nichols is credited with the 1991 cars, the 642 and the 643. The latter was quite sharp-looking with shorter sidepods, but that's the car Prost called a truck. 640: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for the information, I got that one messed up, great picture by the way. Oh yeah the Sharknose Dino was a beauty as well as the 156/85.
the earlier Brabhams were so much cleaner in design, here's a couple with the guy they were named after Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Easily the prettiest f1 car ever IMHO. The 3/4 length smooth sidepods with their intakes nestled in behind the front suspension work was really a clean design. When they would play back a corner in slow-motion on televised races, the reflections on the sidepods were almost artistic. If Formula One was strictly raced on aesthetics, then this car would have won every race! Sadly this was not the case. That, and Senna's vengence prevented Prost winning the championship in '90.
