I plan to visit Melbourne later this month. I normally fly and stay at the Windsor or Hilton etc, but this time I'm driving. Can anyone recommend the best 5 star hotel for valet parking an exotic ? I'm not keen on one which uses a public car park, and I'm paranoid about the valet guy scraping the front end etc. Any suggestions?

Never, ever, ever get a valet to park an exotic.
I think the Park Hyatt (NOT the original Hyatt on Collins Street) has a reasonably safe car park; but I would ring and check first. It's a while since I have been there.
Forget Crown or any of the hotels in the city itself.

I used to stay at Le Meridien on Collins Street for business a lot. Booked in for the Grand Prix and ran the (then) Dutton GP Rally in my LHD 5.0 Mustang. The valet just rode to the garage with me, by mutual agreement, as I really didn't want to turn him loose in my rally car and they were looking at the Mustang like it was from another planet.

You might stay at your usual if they know you and just tell them you're driving this time and will need a "good parking spot", etc. If you haven't been an ar$ehole of a customer I should think they would oblige.

    Cheers
    Kevin

There is an article in The Age (August 13) today where one of the Crown valet parking staff crashed a Porsche 993 Cabriolet through a brick wall, taking out another three parked cars in the process.

Well if anything he's not going to be keeping that job for much longer, but causing 200 000 dollars worth of damage to other cars not just the porsche......
