    Hi Gang:

Can anyone please tell me what is the most desirable of the 308 (GTS) series of cars? My understanding is that at one time Ferrari improved corrosion resistance of the cars, what year was that?

Can anyone suggest a good buyers guide for these cars as well.

    Thank you, Glenn

The most desirable is the one that's been driven and comes with the best (most comprehensive) history.

If you are talking just years the 85 is the best. Some people say that a 85 Euro is the best.

Thank you all very much. Mike, I guess I didn't look hard enough...I'll admit it, maybe I was a bit lazy! It won't happen again!

When I say 'the best' I guess I mean the least problematic (I have heard that it is a pretty solid model regardless) , reliable and most corrosion (I say this because I understand that earlier models did not have much in the way of rustproofing, was it the metal that was used?) resistant of the bunch.

You're definitely talking 84/85 QV. I've had my 1984 GTS/QV US model for over 12 years... the first year I got it I had to change out seals and other items because the first owner didn't drive it enough, but since then it's been primarily just routine maintenance.

I have an 83 308 and I like it alot. But you have to drive a few cars and see what you personally like. For me with some hind sight, there is nothing that beats the sound and feel of a carbed Ferrari. There will never be another injected Ferrari in my life.

If I were to buy another 308, it would be a Fiberglass, dry sump. Just to be different, high H.P. and above all; future appreciation. IMO they are a " Super 246 ".

I had a 77 308 GTB and now have a 81 308 GTSi. The carb'd car was fantastic but temperamental to start; turn the key, let the pump buzz for 30 seconds, tap the accelerator three times, turn the key off and then attempt to start with the accelerator depressed about 1/4 or so of the way. I'll admit, I sucked at starting that car but when I did and she was running, it was something special to hear those Webers whistling away.

Now, I, after owning a 82 Mondial 8, grew to really like the FI even though it was down on the carb'd power. I honestly did not care. When I sold the Mondi, I decided if I ever had another Ferrari, it would be a FI'd 308. I couldn't afford to buy AND maintain a QV so I looked for a nice 2V Fi car and I found it. I love that car. You turn the key and she fires right up; no accelerator, nothing. I honestly don't notice the drop in bhp. Then, again, I'm not hard on the gas.

Remember, it's all up to you. Don't let anyone, myself included, sway your opinion. I always say: Buy the best car you can and make sure you can afford to maintain it. Having the money to buy is one thing. Having the money to maintain is a whole 'nother ball game.

Good luck and keep us posted!

How right you are! Plus, more power, less weight, bumpers are recessed and smaller mirrors. But I might be a little biased.

Question for the guys with Euro cars- are they federalized? Both EPA and DOT? If not, how do you work around vehicle inspections.

I submitted all the required paper work to the local DMV and received a title for the car. Also, I live in a state that does not require inspections.

    Thanks again guys.

Dane, I didn't realize there was such a sound different between a carburated model and injection. I'll have to listen for that!

My memories of the Ferrari sound were as a kid when I say a guy in a Boxer take off from a stop light. Sounded like ripping canvas. I like that sound a lot.

    Hey Steve,
Was there any special occasion with the Triumphs? I have a TR8.
I belive they weren't TR8s over across the pond but rather TR7 V8s or something like that.
