Tired of the Treo 650 and want to upgrade to something better, sharper and faster. Already have a BlackBerry for office emails / work - this would really be for home networking / personal calls. However, has to be Verizon compatible since it is tied in to the office and that's what our office supports.

Thinking of the Motorola Q maybe?

The RAZR is getting a little old IMO, but happy to be convinced otherwise?

What do you like and use?

I tried the Q at CES this year. I was very unimpressed by it. Plus, windows mobile blows. Although I do think its a good first attempt for Motorola. If you absolutely have to go with verizon, go with the treo 700 (but its still windows mobile) or the samsung. Samsung makes some good phones.

The RAZR is a POS fashion symbol. Stay away.

Personally I prefer the crackberry. It does what I need it to do: Phone calls, calendar, address book, and email. Thats it. No fancy ringtones and crap to distract me. Although I am usually alone on this viewpoint:) Also, sticking to the basics means it never crashes or malfunctions.

Good question. Since I've got a BB for the office, mostly need a good phone for the basics. Don't plan on listening to mp3s on it. Or take video. Or browse the web from it. I view those as nice to have, but not must haves.

Like you say, I'd take a nice, sleek phone that has good software and easy-to-navigate menus over looks anytime. If it can integrate PDA functionality, then all the better, but not critical.

As far as sleek goes, you are limited with verizon. Nokia makes some of the best phones out there. The 8800 is an amazing phone and it has looks that will kill, but not for verizon. If you just want something fashionable, get the RAZR. Its so hard to get a nice looking CDMA phone. The only place to get a nice CDMA phone is in korea.

    Hey Vik,

Take a look at the Nokia 9300 or 9500 - Phone that opens with a keyboard and is BlackBerry e-mail, etc. all in 5 ounces. I have one on order to give it a try - I currently have a Razor V3 and standard BB w/phone - I am trying to consolidate into one - but have not like the form factor of the Treo, etc thus far. These 2 phones are pretty thing and slim and flip open a larger keyboard for ease of typing (I say that knowing the keys are still 1/10 of the size of my meaty fingers).

the communicators are amazing phones. So pimp, especially since bond used it in tomorrow never dies to control the 7 series:) Unfortunately, they wont work on verizon. You need to get your office to switch to a GSM carrier so you can get cool phones:)

They have a good network, but CDMA sucks. Espeically for someone who travels overseas and likes the latest phones. Get with the times verizon, the rest of the world (other than Korea) has GSM.

Agree - and that's what is highly frustrating.

Rich - thanks for the suggestions but seems network incompatabilities preclude me from trying them.

    Here's what phones Verizon offers:

I, like you, have a BB from work. I hate carry stuff in my pockets, so I try to carry as least as possible, so the Razr suits me perfectly. The battery life isn't the greatest I noticed, but I really like it for it's sleekness and size. I have the V3c, but now noticed they have a V3m? What's the difference??

the m has a memory card slot, better battery and support for iTunes (but who knows if verizon will let you do that). Although hacking verizon phones is so simple.

I got the Q last week, and been playing with it ever since. If you want a new phone, what do you ned it for?

The Q is a great upgrade from a normal phone, but it is not a true PDA-type phone - it does have most of the functionality but the software is too cumbersome for users who want a true PDA. I got a Q, bc I wanted more than a phone, but slim and light to fit in a pants pocket or blazer.

The Treos and the Samsung are great, but heavy and bulky - these are definitely the best options if you want a PDA or mini computer in your phone.

yeah personally I used to be about the flashy cell phone that would blink in 50 colors and play 2 songs at once in surround sound. But then I realized, I really just want a phone that works. I keep my phone on vibrate all the time anyways. Plus, the blackberry does everything I need and nothing more (plus no flip to break;) )

Interesting comments on the Q David - thanks. Am looking into that as well. Seems to be the best of the worst that Verizon offers - :)

The only functionality I really "want" in my personal phone is the ability to sync with home email (should work well with Q given Windows operating platform) and a good contact database. Icing on the cake would be a QWERTY keyboard for texting.
