I'm not a fabricator but am always amazed at the stuff, even basic skills and tools. I'm just a gear head and like to watch how they do things. I'm a just a wanna-be-fabricator. Even the interactions... well, they take their toll but I'm more interested in how they build the stuff. This is why the new bling-crap Unique show on Speed(vision) bores the hell out of me. They spend 10 minutes going through old stuff in a guy's toolbox. Where's the cars? Why are they just ordering crap and throwing it on the car? It's between Pimp My Ride and OCC. Also, if you like the fab stuff, or just building stuff, you should check out the BBC's (I think?) show, which is occassionally on the upper channels somewhere about building a chopper (personal helicopter), westfield (caterham 7~ish) and a cobra knock off as well.
I used to live in Daytona Beach Florida for a long time, we had bike week every spring, more people died during that one week in Daytona in motorcycle accidents then they did in the whole state of florida for the year......and most of them were preventable if they wore helmets........this lady lobbied the Florida congress in 2000 to allow people not to wear helmets.......she died a year later in an accident and could have been saved if she had worn a helmet.....I took a motorcycle training course instructed by off duty motorcycle cops.....they have seen the worse......they said the dumbest thing you can do is not wear a helmet....the cops themselves were avid motorcycle riders on their off time......funny if you ride a bike you have to wear a helmet but not if you ride a motorcycle
When can i attend your funeral?? If you dont wreck, then your right, you dont need a helmet. But how about if my drunk neighbour cleans you up on a saturday night in his SUV? That was not your fault, i guess you wouldnt need a helmet then? Pull your head out from your arse mate...
That's like being a cop and saying if you don't get shot you don't need the vest. You don't know what the hell is going to happen to you.
Big Paulie is the Martha Stuart of the bike world and is making milliions. At bike week in one day he sold over 2,000,000 in occ merchandise. The show is a hit and has a big following.
Arlen Ness , Perez and a lot of the old custom guys never has a tv show and I don't think ever made the really big money. They did forge the path.
I seen shows on a lot of the old chopper guys including Ness. Let's not pass the cup around for them at this moment! They are all doing quite well for themselves these days! Ness is a pretty heavy hitter. Aside from his bikes, he does very well in the accessory business! Also...I watched OCC last night for a bit. It was the episode that Mikey had to drop a wooden dog off at Paulie Sr's place. He decided to go offroading in Pops soon to be pond he was digging...he got stuck. It was pretty damn funny!
American Chopper ratings???? Really? Got a link? Its funny because I am in that biz and whenever I talk to anyone else they feel the same way that the OCC guys are hacks. I don't know how they make their $$. I know they get a lot from corporate bikes but they do maybe 5-6 a year at around $200k, and I bet they make a few mil a year on merchandise, but who is buying all these customer bikes? I can't even imagine the reaction if you're the guy who just bought your new OCC bike for $50k and you show up to a herd of people laughing at you when you roll into Daytona or Sturgis.
