Recently we lost Richard Wright. Not so long ago Syd Barrett moved up. What is your favorite Pink Floyd song/disc? My favorites (and it's tough choice) is from Animals. "Pigs (three different ones)". I know something from - Dark Side & the Wall are more typical choices.
Wish you were here. "Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?" one of the all time best lyrics!
Hard to pick a favorite, there are four or five I find equally appealing. Depends on my mood I guess. If I had to pick, Comfortably Numb.
Its too hard to pick just one... Mellow mood? - Then... Comfortably Numb was the best song ever Great singing? - I'd have to vote.... On the Turning Away Driving fast? - I Need a Dirty Woman Driving fast late at night - Dogs of war Best line ever- "Love the band, by the way....which one's Pink?"- Money Train
A little O/T Murder by David Gilmour, solo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D9TUhIKDbw&feature=related
One song I alway's resort back too is 'Dogs' but to me everytime I listen to one of their album's, even the solo stuff, I'm constantly in awe. Man let me tell you I was a singing fool at Roger Waters 'Darkside of The Moon' concert this past summer. So basically every song on every album is my favorite!
Not really off topic. Gilmour is such an incredible guitar player it blows the mind. Seeing him do that stuff live is really something.
Wish you were here... I admit bias, as it was the lead track on a mix tape that my (then) future wife sent to me during the summer of our sophomore year of college, which was when we realized we could never be apart for that long again. Just passed 11 years of marriage, and still pull that tape out every now and then to reminisce. -Tad
+1. Actually, it's my favorite song ever. Any genre. For me, personally, there is no better song, no more sad and profound lyrics... But hey, what I hear in it is not necessarily what others do, and while it was written for Syd, it evokes something totally different for me. I never got to see the full Pink Floyd live, but hearing Roger Waters do the entire Dark Side and sing that song live last year was a profoundly moving experience. RIP Richard.
Copy please!!! lol Hey here is a crazy story that is depressing but amazing. The saturday night before Rogers concert here in Houston my buddy Dave called me around 10:30pm but naturally I did not get off work until 11pm that night and did not bother to check my voicemail's. Well the next morning, day of the concert, I finally checked my voicemail and here is the message Dave left me, "Dude guess who I am having a beer with and shooting a game of pool with, Roger Waters, get your butt up here"! I made the EPIC FAIL of the century not checking my voicemail!!!!!!! My bud Dave is one of the owner's of the Slick Willies pool hall's and Roger stopped in at the downtown location. Roger was getting tired of all the BS/attention and asked Dave if there was somewhere else he could go? Well Dave take's Roger and his bodyguard over to his Montrose/Westheimer location and they chillout/hangout until closing. So as Roger is about to leave his bodyguard thank's Dave and tell's him how much he and Roger appreciate his hospitality and tell's him he has a ticket he can leave him at 'will call', Dave say's GREAT!! So it is myself, Dave, Jay and Pepsi who went to the concert and Pepsi and I had lawn seat's while Jay and Dave had seat's in the 'Budweiser box'. So Dave , Pepsi and I walk up to the 'will call' counter and Dave ask for his ticket's right? The guy ask him "Um sir who left these ticket's for you" and Dave replie's "Sir that would be Mr. Roger Waters" and the guy **** himself when he realized that, the look on his face was priceless! So Dave has the TWO not just ONE ticket's in hand, with a **** eaten grin on his face, and say's to me and Pepsi "Dude you two can have these two ticket's but for good karma we should give away yall's two lawn seat's"? We are both just saying 'good call Dave' and we start walking through the crowd and end up running into some friend's who had no ticket's and handed them over to them, what a great feeeling it was to be able to helpout a brother/friend in need. So long story short Pepsi and I ended up sitting 13th row while the Bud Box was 10+ row's behind us although they did have free beer/drink's with waitresse's, although I think I was the biggest winner that night! Good times good times!
Thanks! Ironically enough, we're apart for the longest since then right now. I'm on the East Coast for a month while she's back home on the West Coast. She will be joining me in about two weeks for fall colors. Midway through typing this reply, I had a great idea, surfed over to youtube and gmail and emailed her this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1moiym6-Nk Thanks for the inspiration! -Tad
Not just for Sid but for my dear friend/brother Ronnie, who I had known since the 7th grade, who passed away 2yr's ago. Pink Floyd was his favorite band also and we spent many long night's and day's of partying and listening to the Floyd. Everytime I listen to that song I tear up and call his sister, sad thing is I am 44yr's old and he was barely 42yr's old.
That song is incredible. IMO it's one of the greatest songs ever recorded. +1 It's a toss up between this and Wish You Were Here. Found a copy of Wish You Were Here on ebay that wasn't remastered. Sounds killer
