You are speaking to a computer dummy but I could use some help on how to download a song from my computer, downloaded from the CD already, so I can share it?
Piper was by far the best, but I like all the rest, too. Story time: I took a 'Pop and Rock Music History' class at the local U. this past summer. (background - I'm 50 yrs old) We got to the 'Psychedelic Scene' and how it got started in both the USA and in Yurrup. For his 'UK example piece' he played 'See Emily Play', 'Flaming', and 'Lucifer Sam'....... (I don't think these 3 would be my top 3 choices for yurrepean psych music, but whatever he says...) So he fires up these songs, I close my eyes and lip-sync all of them... After class he says to me 'I'm in trouble with you - I wasn't expecting anyone to have even HEARD OF these songs before'.... Personally, after the 'Piper' album, I like the songs 'Shine on you crazy diamond', 'Have a cigar' and 'One of these days'.
Best song is imho "Summer '68" from the Atom Heart Mother album. Somehow sounds completely different to every other song I've heard in my life. Beside that one, Set the controls... is fantastic. And Grantchester Meadows for the summer.
Surprised at how many give the earliest Floyd as their favorites. "summer of '68" is a powerful song. "Green is the Colour" or "If" are some of the other ones that I never get tired of.
I just return from a concert of a Pink Floyd cover band (one of the better ones, was fantastic), they played a wide range of songs through all the years, and it convinced me again that the early songs are just... well... better! Putting my flamesuit on, I think the songs went down with the "The Wall" album. Speaking of "Summer '68", you're right, powerful is a good word to describe the song... but I still haven't found out what makes it so different from any other piece of music...
"Pigs" and "Fearless" are two of my favorites. But picking a favorite Floyd song is like picking your favorite hummer.
Mother off of The Wall is still probably my favorite The live version of Wish You Were Here from DSOT is a close second. Actually except for The Dogs of War, the entire DSOT is pretty incredible.
All time Favorite is Cluster One, off The Division Bell. FANTASTIC song, just does it. Favorite Album, Dark Side Of The Moon, play the record all the time. Other Favorites include: Astronomy Domine Hey You Shine On All of Animals (second favorite Album) Time A Pillow Of Winds Remember a Day See Emily Play The Thin Ice Welcome To The Machine Have A Cigar Comfortably Numb San Tropez The Greatest Days Of our Lives Us & Them Another Brick In The Wall (Part Ii) Breathe Echoes Pow R. Toc. H (Another Favorite) The Gunners Dream The Dogs Of War Wearing The Inside Out Any Colour You Like Childhoods End Jugband Blues The Great Gig In The Sky Sorrow Keep Talking Young Lust Great band, Great songs, Great people. My Avatar is Syd.
Breathe and the dark instrumental at the end. I've always imagined some sort of creepy Secret of Nimh scene for the ending
Way to many to list, but here are a few: Fearless Careful with That Axe, Eugene Grantchester Meadows Mother One of These Days Us and Them- IMO one of the most beautiful songs in the world! Anything from Animals, IMO, one of the greatest albums ever produced!
This is nearly impossible to answer! 30 years ago my favorite album was Umma Gumma Then Dark Side of the Moon with the song, Time, as my favorite. A transitional time, the tape "Wish You Were Here". (Shine On You Crazy Diamond!) After that , anything with David Gilmour, especially the song "We've Gotta Get Outta Here" Best guitarist of all time for me. Too much to remember, too many favorites for too many different moods and different life events.
Comfortably Numb is really hard to top the G Riff @ 4min mark and played on a Burmester system with some Sativa !!
Someone revived a thread from 2008. ? Nick Mason just released a blu ray of his Saucerful of Secrets tour which is excellent if you like the early PF
Well some of us still get flashbacks........ As Emilio Estevez said in Repo Man: "You eat a lot of acid Miller, back in the hippie days?"
