Am seriously thinking about getting a 20G iPod. Was surprised to see eBay, which I typically find to be a good source for getting electronics at reasonable prices, offer iPods for $299 to $350 -- no discount to the list price of $299.

Pricegrabber found a price of $284 from a reputable store. I assume the reason prices remain high is because these things continue to fly off the shelf. If you guys know of a better source, I'd appreciate the input.

I primarily will be using the iPod for the gym. The reason I'm not going with the iPod Mini is because I have over 1,000 songs, and would like the ability to load them all on. If you have a suggestion for a better device than the iPod, but one that continues to meet my twin requirements of (i) large disk-space, and (ii) strong reliability, please weigh in here.

    Many thanks.

I (student) can buy from Apple.com @ $269.00 20GB 4 generation Ipod. I dont actually know if they check personal info to confirm that you actually attend to the school you say but might be worth a try.

Nobody discounts Apple stuff. Since Apple also distributes their own products, they're not going to leave room for resellers to undercut them.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Dell also distributes, yet you can find their equipment at substantial discounts to the prices you would pay should you buy from their site.

I'm not familiar with Dell's reseller policy, but I know Apple runs a very tight ship.

I'd steer clear of eBay for an iPod. As you say, there's no financial benefit as such and a lot of iPod auctions are scams these days.

That's the only advice I can offer, I'm afraid.

Apple offers educational discounts. You can be a school administrator, teacher, adjunct professor, etc. Lots of potential options, which you (or someone you may know) would likely qualify for. Go to Apple's web site (www.apple.com), then to Store, then to education.

I got the email from Costco advertising the iPod mini for $269.99. So I checked the price for the same unit on apple.com, and it was $249.99. Just because it's at Costco, don't assume it's cheaper.
