Hi, I am new to this board, so please bear with me, but I am having my 308 delivered from CA this week and I think the first thing I want to do is have a radar detector installed so I don't start accumulating tickets again. I have been out of the loop for a while so could someone tell me what they think the best radar that is out there today and the best place that I can have it installed(ie hardwired and concelled). Thanks Steve
STEVE....WELCOME BEST RADAR......VALENTINE 1 www.valentine1.com/store BEST SHOP FOR INSTALLATION....TECHNIK 1, IN NYC ASK FOR GUS.. THE WHOLE NY NJ GROUP USE HIM..HES A GREAT GUY GOOD LUCK BRUCE
Get a Valentine 1 radar detector. Get the V1 installed (in the rearview mirror) at WWW.TECHNIK1.COM . Gus at TECHNIK1 is the best. Congrats on your purchase!!! 308's are cool, stylish rides!!!!
Thanks for all your help and welcome. I hope to catch up with you one day on one of these runs! Steve
My new Valentine V1 just arrived today in the mail. Can't wait to hook it up and try it out. You know what will probably happen to me now that I've finally bought a radar detector?? Yes, you guessed it. With my luck, I'll get a damn ticket immediately despite my dedicated and diligent efforts to go the speed limit all the time (since I seem to be the guy who gets pulled over ALL the time).
I was fawkin lucky 2x today!!! Went by a CT state trooper at 90+ on 2 separate occasions this morning in the TR and I didn't even get pulled over !!!!
Refreshing an older post on where to get radars installed in the tri-state area. I have heard people recommend: 1) Technik 1 in NYC 2) Star Motoring in Englewood Anybody have recent experience / thoughts on who is best around NYC? I plan to put a Valentine into the mirror of an F430 Spider (stealth, not etched with the knob in the ashtray).
39:3-74, for NJ drivers, don't mount them in the windshield or on the dash board near the windshield Valentine 1 is good, but a smart cop in a good spot with proper technique and equipment will nail you ever time
A couple buddies recently had the V1 and Lidar installed at Technik in NYC for the daily drivers. Gus is a good man.
Long live Gus and Anthony at Technik 1! They do great installs, and I have sent them many happy customers
My daily driver is a BMW 525i. They have been pushing the Passport 9500ci. They say it has the ability to shift (or as I infer jam) a laser signal. $2,000 installed by a guy my friend knows. My friends father swares by it--he has it installed in his daily driver. I currently have a Valentine 1 and adore it, but it is obvious that I will get a ticket from laser. Anyone have one of these? Does it work?
I have used Gil Laguna at Autosound & More in Norwalk, CT for my 430. Perfect install, no issues. Does a lot of high end stuff.
I have a V1/Blinder setup in all of my cars from Gus at Technik1 and he is by far the best when it comes to workmanship and customer service.
I looked at the Blinder and was happy to see the cost was lower. Do you believe in it? You think it really works? Any comments would be greatly appreciated--I am on the fence for the purchase.
I have a Valentine1, although I'm a bit envious of a friend with the Passport Escort. We were driving in Arizona and he was picking up all the speed light cameras and I wasn't. They seem to be more in-tune with cameras; speed & red light. Not sure if it's a big deal in NYC or not though. I'm pretty happy with my V1 though. It definitely does a great job notifying me of cops on the road.
I haven't done any testing on my own to confirm that it does indeed work. However I do have real world experiences with it and (knock on wood) I haven't been stopped for a LIDAR enforcement since I installed the blinder in one of my Porsches years ago. I've been targeted and warned by the Blinder, but never stopped for a speed violation with it in use.
Ai Design (www.aidesign.com) 914-779-9000 hands down, remember you pay for what you get. If you take the opportunity to stop in at Ai and look at their facility and the projects that they are working on, you will see that there is no other choice. Yes, they may seem pricey, but their work is unlike anyone else's. yes, everyone and they're brother installs radar's these days, but you want a system that is integrated seamlessly and without problems. By the way, Ai recently did a trick roll bar and fire supression system in a Scuderia, extremely sick and OEM in disign and finish. Can't wait to they put it up on their website.
Been there and while AI's work is top notch the truth is so is Gus' @ Teknik1, and he is much more reasonable-not cheap but in line with reality. Its one thing to pay a premium and get a quality job, however they charge way past an acceptable premium for quality IMO-AI primarily caters to people who just have more money than they know what to do with.
I think there are many awesome installers but their mirrors leave a lot to be desired, I find it depressing when I see awesome installations that are let down by poor quality etching of the mirror.
