    Texas!
It looks like I'm going to be doing the Houston to Pensacola boogie again. So I was wondering, who makes the best Po Boys say in a line south from I-10? A couple of qualifiers. One the bread has to be perfect. It can't be hard, but not too doughy. You want it soft enough to soak up the juices. From what I recall, there's a bakery in town that is the original bread place, but I can't remember their name. Second, it has to have lettuce and tomato. Third, it has to be fried oysters.

    What say ye?

PS: The last good place was one in New Iberia.

Here is the bread you are talking about:Leidenheimer Baking Company

Not an Oyster Po-Boy fan, I prefer BBQ Beef at Koz's in Harahan formerly THE BAKERY in Gentilly , then roast beef dressed then shrimp. Fried oysters have to stay on a plate no need to stick them on bread in my opinion.

I can say, that the WORSE po boy I had the displeasure of eating came from Acme Oyster House!
Dry bread, meager size, flavorless. But they probably sell lots of them to tourists like myself, that didn't know better.

The future is uncertain. Still in P- Cola helping my mom. Doctors are supposed to be back at work today. We have been in a holding pattern since Thursday.

Now you see why I asked which day Dale was driving through town...because Parkway only has oysters on Mondays and Wednesdays!

Pontchartrain Po Boys in Mandeville is the best. They are the closest to how they were made pre Katrina . By this I mean actually putting meat on them and not bread with a Subway quantity of beef. They also still put some gravy on them.

A true New Orleans Po Boy place would have oysters on Fridays.

Honestly, I don't understand why they don't just have them every day and adjust the price if it's a scarcity issue.

It is a LENT and Catholic thing not a scarcity thing. In the old days when I was young (80's and back) The po boy places only had shrimp and oysters on Fridays and Saturdays as Catholics had a Friday ban on meat year round (still do technically).

Uptown thing. I went to Mahoney's and found it to be the most overrated and overpriced around. Still need to try Guy's.

I know the Lent reference, but again, oysters should really be available at all times or at least most of the time.
