I am looking to install a radar detector in my 458 which can be concealed and with good performance. What are your recommendations?
9500 with Jammer has worked very well for me... That's in my 599 and 430, but will be doing that in the 458 too.
Valentine 1. No other detector has the arrows. Once you have experienced them working in real life, you won't go back to a detector without them.
V1. It's the class of the field and the mark of an informed purchaser. I own three of them. Never failed me.
Depending on the State you are in.... Radar blinders are outlawed and the car can be impounded if blinders are installed. I love my 9500 but had to turn off the blinders through the software... My Spider to arrive end of this month will have a V1 - I wish there was a way to get the arrows in the mirror....
As has been said already laser jammers are illegal in many states. You can find the list of states that they are legal in here:Laser Interceptor - The Ultimate Laser Jammer - Laws: State By State Valentine 1 is what I use (I have 4 of them!!!). They help with identifying the location of the source (from the front, rear, sides etc.) and keep count on the number of sources. The best IMO. Laser Inerceptor (LI) is the best laser jamming system I have used (until they were outlawed in Texas). One word of caution - none of them is infallible! Instant-On laser pointed at you and only you is virtually undefeatable in a speed trap.
The V1 goes off for every door opener you pass, a pain in the butt. Yep the arrows are great, you get to say to yourself "Another Kroger coming up, now I am passing Kroger " over and over again. I had one and sold it. The 9500ix works great and uses GPS to block the door openers that never move ... if something appears three times from the same spot in a row it is blocked. The 9500ci is way cool! I drove by a Ohio HP doing about 74 with a guy passing me about 85, 70 mph zone, and my jammer even blocked the laser enough that the guy passing me didn't get bothered! The only bad thing is your dealer might take a couple days to install it and that is a couple days that you are not DRIVING IT! And with the 9500ix I use the iPhone module and actually have been warned miles in advance where someone else saw the speed trap! This is a VERY cool thing! Rick
I have a Valentine 1 on a Blendmount. Not the most concealed look, but it was an easy install. The V1 can be programmed to ignore the door openers -- works as long as the police don't use the same band. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Has any one have pictures of a 9500 ci mounting installation. or the K40 mounting in front of car. Looks drificult in routing the wiring to the inside controls plus mounting. I have a K40 used on my 360 and it worked fine but am thinking of purchasing a 9500 for my 458 that should be here by the end of March. Any information would be appreciated thanks. Peter
The mounting is in glove compartment and middle console (button to push to turn off for moment, record non "lethal" sources, to not be repeatedetc) with display under driver right air duct built into the dash. No fuss no wires, no one can see it and with the 9500, if stopped can turn car on and it will not light up until going 25mph if a police officer wants to see if you have one. Best
I run a 9500ci and v1 in my 458. I then have a v1 in all my other cars too. V1 is great, but new GPS technology and such is clearly making it outdated. V1 really needs to step up their game, but for now, I'm still a huge huge huge fan. It has the best range of detection I have ever experienced... Just would be nice to have a smaller or built in unit, as well as the GPS lockout feature.

V1 is detectable by many police forces. You want the Bel air STI-R Plus + Laser interceptor quad jammer. You will be completely undetectable. Entire kit runs about 2k. It is WELL worth it. Watching the confused pig fiddle with his laser gun as you cruise by is priceless.
In this setup you will only be safe from laser.... You hope. There are no guarantees and no way to block regular radar bands.
you are never completely undetectable....it's a game...if you have a cop behind an overpass outside his car and he hits you at 50 yds there is no escaping the laser/ radar gun....it's all about distance....I know a couple of State troopers that find a lot of pleasure in hiding and catching speeders....depends on how lazy they are and at what lengths they go to....some guys sit on the side of the road with the radar gun non-stop.....others will hide in the bushes....
I think a lot depends on location, too. I found that in SoCal, the CHP usually does not use laser (I'm not sure if they even have it). Often they leave their radar on all the time, so there is ample warning.
Windshield mounted Valetines and Escorts, etc. are no protection against a laser. They are located to high and either will not detect or do so too late. The 9500 for example, and other expensive systems, usually have sensors mounted on the front grill/rear panel, where the car is normally "hit". I do know from experience, my 9500CI firs jams, allowing me the time to slow down and the turn it off so I am detected, which has confused more than one officer. The 9500CI also has a feature, presuming you are the "only" car on the road, and an officer pulls you over "believing" he was jammed, that allows the system to be turned off and cannot be detected again unless you go over 25mph. So you turn the key and are fully detectable. Best
My car is in another state but will send when there next time. Basically, all you see is the "display" built into the dash (it is dark and blends with black carbon fiber and material, when off), and a "toggle" switch located in the forward part of the middle console (also concealed). Best
